An Epic Founder’s Day

by Angela on May 14, 2010

THE VAMPIRE DIARIESThe sign of a good season finale, of course waking up the next morning and you’re still thinking about the show and what will happen to the people of Mystic Falls. This was probably one of the best Founder’s Day Mystic Falls has seen in a while and the best part, only a select few people actually knew what was going on.

So what are some high points of Episode #22 – Founder’s Day:

  • It’s Founder’s Day so of course Elena is going to look like Katherine which totally makes Stefan and Damon think. Stefan is worried about his relationship with Elena since he knows the truth about Damon. And Damon keeps doing that flirting thing he does. Elena tells Stefan for the millionth time that she loves him and not Damon.
  • Elena finds out that John is her father by way of Stefan. (The whole John is your father thing was built up to be so much more than it turned out. Elena didn’t even seem to feel anything about it. Not sadness, not hatred…it was just something.) Meanwhile, John is still hating on the vampires who are planning to kill the founding families when the fireworks go off that night. But John has the mystery invention that only works one time and for only five minutes. With the support of Mayor Lockwood and against Sheriff Forbes, John decides it’s time to round up the vampires at the moment their mass killing and burn them they way they should have in 1864. John is successful is setting off the device which makes vampires disabled long enough to shoot them with vervain but some funny things happen. Mayor Lockwood and Tyler are also effected by the high pitch signal and the mayor is mistaken for a vampire and thrown in the basement with all the other vampires including Anna and Damon.
  • John kills Anna while Damon watches and it’s obvious that Damon would have tried to stop him from killing her, but he just couldn’t. The mayor is down there and is killed by a vampire. Stefan who is nearly caught by a deputy when he’s rendered useless because of the high pitch is saved by Alaric who tells the deputy to go after another vampire. When Stefan and Elena finally figure out what happened to Damon, Stefan decides to go help but the fire is strong. This is where Bonnie comes in and talks some of that magic voodoo and lessens the fire long enough for Stefan to save Damon. At this point, Stefan realizes how much he cares for Damon…and Elena tells him she cares about Damon too, but she loves Stefan.
  • THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

  • Jeremy decides that he doesn’t want to turn when Anna asks him too, but she still hands over the vile of blood to him. Plus, she tells him exactly what to do with so it’s only natural that he’s going to use after Damon tells him that John killed Anna. Now Jeremy decides he doesn’t want to feel the pain of life anymore and takes a whole bottle of Elena’s pain killers after drinking Anna’s blood.
  • While Jeremy is upstairs killing himself, Damon is having a conversation with Elena on the front porch. He comes over to thank her for thinking he was worth saving and he kisses her check. But then the kiss turns into a full on make out until Jeanna opens the door and tells Elena to come inside. Jenna asks Elena what’s she’s doing but she says she doesn’t want to talk about it. As Damon walks away he touches his lips and has a pensive look on his face.
  • Damon: You know, I came to this town wanting to destroy it. Tonight, I found myself wanting to protect it. How does that happen? I’m not a hero, Elena. I don’t do good. It’s not in me.

    “Elena”: Maybe it is.

Damon: No. It’s reserved for my brother, and you, and Bonnie — even though she has a reason to hate me still helped Stefan save me.

“Elena”: Why do you sound so surprised?

Damon: ‘Cause she did it for you. Which means that somewhere along the way, [he moves closer] you decided that I was worth saving. And I wanted to thank you for that.

    “Elena”: You’re welcome.

  • Meanwhile, John comes home and is digging around in the kitchen when Elena sneaks up behind him. They talk about how he loved Isobel and cared for her so much. He regretted sending Isobel to Damon to turn her because it changed who she was. He offers to help her put away some knives and she looks down at his ring and cuts off his fingers and she stabs him with the knife. It’s not Elena, it’s Katherine dressed like Elena. Meanwhile, Elena is returning home and talking to Stefan on the phone. As she goes inside, she hears noises in the kitchen and she walks forward…
  • And some other things included by not crucial to the storyline:

  • Caroline is going into to surgery due to internal bleeding that occurred with Tyler was driving her and Matt home, per his father’s request, and was affected by the high pitch noise. He ended up wrecking the car. But Matt and Tyler are back to being friends thanks to Caroline.
  • Also, Bonnie tells Stefan that Damon has to change. If there is one drop of innocent blood shed due to Damon she is going to take him down, even if that means she has to go through Stefan to do it.
