The Battle For Stefan: Who Would Win?

by Angela on October 6, 2011

After last week’s episode, The End of The Affair, I spent a great deal of time talking about Stefan and the loves of his life and how there could be a battle of love brewing. What is Stefan doing to this ladies? He seems to be capturing the hearts of all the ladies he encounters. But if there were to be a battle for Stefan’s heart, who would win?

Elena
Her tie to the supernatural: The Doppleganger
Weapon of Choice: Love
Why she could stand a chance: Elena and Stefan have this tortured love story. There’s no need to rehash it here because we’ve watched it unfold. The one thing we can’t deny is that Stefan and Elena are naturally drawn to each other and have overcome many obstacles. Even now that Stefan is hanging out with Klaus, Elena is still following him around. She would never give up on him and obviously Stefan isn’t ready to give up on her either. Also, because it’s Elena, if there was a serious fight somehow (through Bonnie or other supernatural means) Elena would be blessed with some special power that would allow her to defeat evil.
Why she could suffer defeat: Maybe her love for Stefan isn’t strong enough because she might be passing that torch on to the other Salvatore brother. Or just maybe, no one would come to Elena’s aid and she would just be left standing there say, “But I’m the doppelganger…”

Rebekah
Her tie to the supernatural: She’s an ORIGINAL.
Weapon of Choice: Super strong vampire force and her brother Klaus. Is there really anything this girl can’t do? She’s the ultimate power force.
Why she could stand a chance: Rebekah and Stefan were ripped apart suddenly. Her last thoughts were about Stefan and now he’s there when she returns to the undead. At this point, Rebekah has the most the gain out of all the ladies because she wants what she was never really ever able to have. Plus, she could be really mad to find out Stefan moved on with his life and found another girl to love. It’s bound to come out that Stefan is still protecting Elena and everyone else in Mystic Falls. Her rage might be turned toward Elena more than Katherine though.
Why she could suffer defeat: She may not be too focused on Elena and not enough on Katherine. We all know that Katherine always has a Plan B, C, D… so that would leave her open. Klaus is another reason why she wouldn’t win. Klaus seems to have a jealous streak floating through him when it comes to Stefan. Klaus might decide to stake her again just to get rid of her once he gets what he needs so he can be chummy with Stefan without the distraction.

Katherine
Her tie to the supernatural: Vixen Vampire, ex-doppleganger, all around bad ass
Weapon of Choice: Wit and power
Why she could stand a chance: Katherine is a smart girl. She managed to wiggle her way out of tomb, made men fall in love with her along the way, and managed to stalk Stefan through time. She’s always thinking ahead and killing her won’t be easy. Katherine knows the history and can make any bit of information work in her favor. She may be a strong vampire, but she wouldn’t be able to defeat an original without wit.
Why she could suffer defeat: Because even smart girls make mistakes. If Katherine actually died in a battle like this she didn’t make the right moves.

Who would win the fight for Stefan's love?

Here’s the questions you need to answer:

Damon and Elena: Unearthing the Person Within

by Rachael on October 26, 2010

Photo: Bob Mahoney/The CW

Elena has continually made it quite clear that she is solely in love with Stefan. At this point in the show’s story, Elena and Stefan are the focal point of the romance. That’s not to say, however, that it will always be that way. There’s a third character that is very capable of vying for Elena’s affections – Damon. The Vampire Diaries isn’t the result of a two dimensional love story, but of a love triangle. I am sure that as the season progresses, Damon will play a more pivotal role in the central love story of the show.

The first step of Damon and Elena’s relationship was their friendship. In season one, viewers watched as Damon progressed from the bad-boy of the show, killing innocent people and feeling no remorse, to someone who was trying to unearth his long buried humanity. Elena was crucial in this process, forgiving Damon of his transgressions and helping him to feel again. It is arguable that Elena, and Elena alone, was responsible for Damon’s transformation. The two of them gained a mutual respect, and that respect then grew to a mutual liking of one another, and then to an actual friendship. Progress was then made between the two Salvatore brothers, and the triangle between Elena, Damon, and Stefan was born.

The first episode of Season 2 proved to be a rocky start for Damon and Elena’s relationship. Damon was devastated to discover that he hadn’t really kissed Elena but had kissed Katherine instead, and hurt when Elena told him that she would “never do that.” Damon then went on to snap Jeremy’s neck, and Elena, obviously greatly upset, has refused Damon’s friendship ever since. At the end of episode 1, The Return, Elena declares, “I hate him, Stefan.” But as Katherine so kindly pointed out to Stefan in that same episode, “that sounds like the beginning of a love story… not the end of one.”

So where is Elena and Damon’s relationship headed after this twisted turn of events? I believe that as this season progresses, Damon will redeem himself in Elena’s eyes, and their friendship will be renewed. I think that whether their friendship grows into something more greatly depends on Stefan and Elena’s relationship. Elena is truly in love with Stefan right now, and for her to come to love Damon as more than a friend, I think she and Stefan would have to have some sort of breaking off. Whether it is by a mutual agreement, or out of necessity, Elena and Stefan’s relationship would have to come to some sort of standstill or end before Elena would consider Damon as a possible love interest. My guess is that Elena and Stefan would have to break up due to some unforeseen necessity to protect each other or the people they love. This could conceivably happen with Katherine back in town. She wants Stefan, not Damon, and if Stefan is forced to play along with her games, he will have to keep his distance from Elena. This could be the opportune moment for Damon to enter the picture, and could be a source of comfort and love for Elena.

The final question to be considered is why Damon and Elena would make a good pair. I think there are a few obvious answers to that question. First of all, Elena would definitely be a source of stability for Damon. She has already proved that she can draw out the humanity within him, and if their relationship were deepened by a romantic aspect, I feel she could even bring out the person he was before he was turned. Elena would also bring Damon happiness, and after all he has been through, I believe Damon deserves to be loved by someone as kind and selfless as Elena. If Elena were able to bring out Damon’s humanity, I believe he would be a great love interest for her. I think Damon would do absolutely anything to protect Elena, something which Elena is always in need of. Elena also loves to take care of people, and I think she would find a great sense of purpose in watching Damon become a better person.

Damon is also undeniably fun. Elena has the tendency to be too serious and simply needs someone to bring out the lighter side of her personality. In season 1, we were able to see Damon and Elena’s relationship without the drama of Mystic Falls affecting it. This was in episode 11, Bloodlines, when Damon took Elena on a road trip. Damon was able to make Elena laugh and relax, even against her better judgment. Just as Elena can bring out another side of Damon, Damon is able to bring out a side of Elena that we rarely see.

If Damon and Elena are able to repair their friendship, I think it will continue to grow into something more. There is definitely something between them, as Damon has adamantly pointed out to Elena, even if she refuses to see it at this point. Somewhere down the line, however, I think Elena will be forced to realize her own emotions, and when she does I believe her and Damon will discover that both of them have a great power to bring out something special in the other. And maybe, just maybe, that realization will bring them from friendship to love.

Save Damon: Stake Dalena

by Alison on October 20, 2010

At the risk of committing blasphemy amongst the Dalena-shippers, I hope the show runners never pair these two. Yes, I like Elena with Stefan. What’s wrong with a “healthy” relationship (and I use that term loosely)? Let’s be honest, he’s still the bad boy with issues that most sane girls and women should want to run screaming from. Hello, he’s a vampire! He has to kill people to survive. Ok, so he’s killing bunnies these days, but as Caroline points out, “Isn’t killing cute defenseless animals the first step to becoming a serial killer?” But even amidst all his angst and drama, he still tries to be the good guy. The one we should want Elena with.

But that’s not why I pray Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec never allow Damon and Elena to actually have a relationship. The fact is that Damon with Elena would kill everything that makes Damon “Damon” faster than one of Alaric’s pneumatic wooden-stake guns.

What makes Damon interesting is that he is constantly teetering between good and bad—saving a life and snapping a neck. Pair him with Elena and she will inevitably tip the balance. He’ll want to be better, to be good, to be deserving of her. It’s one thing to look the other way when your vampire boyfriend’s sociopath brother kills his 300-year-old best friend or the football coach. You’re not sleeping with him. But it’s another thing to shrug off the fact that your boyfriend comes home with more blood on him than could have ever come from a blood bank juice box.

Elena still believes in right and wrong. One false step on his part and she’ll end it. She won’t let him get away with it. Pair the two and either Elena stops being Elena or Damon stops being Damon. I’d rather have tortured, snarky, unstable Damon Elena-free. But if he wants to vent his frustration with Katherine, more dysfunctional (Really, did it never occur to him in his 160+ years on the planet to get a little therapy to work on this obsession?) power to him. And if he could do so with his shirt off, even better.

Would Elena Kiss Damon Back?

by Angela on August 25, 2010

Season one of The Vampire Diaries was filled with good and bad vampires, witches, clashes and of course love. Fans watched as Damon started to develop feelings for Elena as Elena’s relationship grew stronger with Stefan. Stefan stumbled along the way which could have opened the door for Damon to step in, but Elena’s feelings for Stefan stayed strong. But what if things were different, would Elena kiss Damon back? Nina Dobrev spoke with Carina Adly MacKenzie of Zap2it about the situation.

“I mean, I’m sure Elena has had dreams about Damon,” Dobrev says. “I’m not sure if she was put in the position to kiss him what she would do. I feel like she has high morals, and she loves Stefan (Paul Wesley). It’s always been Stefan.”

Nina also says that thinks between Elena and Damon will stay strictly friendly. Elena does care about him and is concerned about what will happen to him, but she loves Stefan and “she wants to make that work.”
