2.02 – Brave New World – Preview

by Angela on September 15, 2010

I love when Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec do these things. It gives great insight into the show and what they were thinking when writing the show. It’s just enough to get us interested, but doesn’t spoil the episode.

Shane in Pittsburgh, Pa.: Will Jenna finally find out the truth about vampires on The Vampire Diaries?
Nope, you can expect Aunt Jenna to remain blissfully unaware of the supernatural happenings in Mystic Falls, at least for now. How can that be when she was in the house while Katherine was chopping off Uncle John’s fingers and Jeremy was upstairs downing blood and pills? Executive producer Julie Plec tells us, “We’ll learn in the first episode that she was actually out talking to the fire marshal. Katherine actually lured Jenna out of the house before all the craziness happened.” Finger slicing aside, that Katherine seems like a fine young lady, no?

Beth in Phoenix, Ariz.: Got any scoop on TVD’s flashback episodes?
We have three tidbits about the three, possibly four, planned walks down the Salvatore brothers’ memory lane:

  • We chatted with Bianca Lawson, a.k.a. the original Bennett witch, who spilled that “Emily Bennett’s coming back to maybe be a good witch, maybe be bad witch.” Maybe we’ll finally see her make the deal with the devil himself, Damon, which sealed the vamps in the tomb?
  • When we spoke with Kevin Williamson at Comic-Con he confirmed that we will be seeing some of season one’s dearly departed via flashbacks. Our fingers are crossed for the return of fan favorite Anna.
  • Expect to learn about a lot more about the infamous Katherine. Williamson teased, “Why wasn’t she in the tomb? How did she escape? Where did she go? Why did she come to Mystic Falls to begin with? What brought her to Mystic Falls? There’s all those fun questions that we’re gonna explore.”

  • Kevin Williamson revealed there is a backstory to Katherine that we don’t know about and there will be more Katherine flashbacks.
  • From the new footage of season two, it’s revealed that Katherine did not come back to Mystic Falls for Damon; she came back from Stefan. “The truth is, I never loved you.”
  • Katherine and Stefan will come face-to-face in the season premiere of the show.
  • Julie Plec revealed tidbits about Jeremy: “Jeremy is going to wake up alive or he’s going to wake up dead, but he will wake up.”
  • Will Caroline survive?  Julie Plec wasn’t so clear about that. “Caroline’s life is hanging in the balance; it will either be very sad very dramatic, or she’ll live to tell the tale.”
  • Damon and Stefan will struggle with their own issues: “Damon is wrestling with the good side of him, and Stefan will have to come to terms with being a vampire and excepting it,” Williamson said. But it’s something Somerhalder himself isn’t all that happy about. He chimed in, “The nice Damon freaks me out! I don’t know how to do it well. My favorite scenes are the fun, nutty Damon.” Agreed, Ian, agreed.
  • Kevin Williamson said people are going to die, but “”We don’t kill people just to kill people. It has to fit in the story and make sense.”

Spoilers: What’s next for Vampire Diairies?

by Angela on November 17, 2009

Lia H. in Los Angeles: Damon gives such good crying face! Are you watching Vampire Diaries? I’m such a sucker for this show.
Last week’s ep sucked me in, too! I’m hearing that Elena and Damon are going on a road trip pretty soon, so it doesn’t look like he really ran away for good. I know. Shocker! So maybe he’ll leave the car window down so you can see those sexy tears again. Meanwhile, for you who want to get on board, the CW just announced a Vampire Diaries marathon beginning Dec. 14.

Dani in Sacramento, Calif.: Any scoop on The Vampire Diaries? It’s my new addiction!
Brace yourselves for another flashback, because in episode 12, we’re going to meet Damon and Stefan’s father, Giuseppe! Who else is superexcited by this? Giuseppe is described as a handsome, no-nonsense businessman of Italian heritage who in his mid-40s, “with a stern demeanor that hides a fierce devotion to his family and growing fears for their future.” Got any dream casting? For some reason all we can think of right now is Joey Tribbiani. Give us someone better!

Rebecca in Upland, Calif.: Anything else on Vampire Diaries?
Kevin Williamson tells us that the new history teacher, Matt Davis, is in town because he has “a bit of a secret agenda,” and Matt and Caroline’s relationship continues to grow. “We’ll also get to learn more about the town. We will stay focused on our leads and our central epic love story,” says Kevin. “But the show does expand.”
