Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Klaus took Stefan back to Chicago and reminisced about the good ol’ 1920s, Katherine reappeared, Caroline got tortured by her dad, Elena and Damon went to Chicago to bring Stefan back home, Stefan and Elena officially broke up, and Klaus brought back his sister, Rebecca to life.

This week episode, Disturbing Behavior, is about Stefan trying to keep Klaus and Gloria from finding out the necklace and Elena.

Chicago:
Now that Rebecca is alive and in 2011, she needs to update her wardrobe. Klaus and Stefan take her shopping. She tries on clothes while the boys drink champagne. That must be the life, really.

While Stefan steps away from the original siblings, Katherine signals him to follow her. Katherine has been keeping an eye on Klaus and Stefan. She’s up to speed on the whole necklace thing and pretty much everything that Klaus and Stefan had done throughout the summer. She wants to know what Stefan is up to. I want to believe that Katherine really does care for Stefan and wants to help him, but I can’t help but think that this woman never does anything that isn’t going to benefit her somehow. If Stefan is going to Klaus, of course she want in because she wants Klaus dead.

Mystic Falls:
Meanwhile in Mystic Falls, Damon is helping Elena cook chili for the Founders’ party. Domesticated much? These two are already acting like couples. Is this the season Damon and Elena are finally going to get together?

Rick doesn’t seem to be happy about this closeness between Damon and Elena. I don’t blame him though. Now that he’s staying at the Gilbert house and looking after Elena and Jeremy, he’s their guardian. I wouldn’t want my kid to be dating a psychopath vampire like Damon, either.

Jeremy:
Jeremy is still seeing ghosts and this episode, he not only sees Anna’s ghost but he feels and talks to Anna’s ghost. Anna says that she only appears when Jeremy thinks about her. So, does that mean that Vicki only appears when Jeremy thinks about her too? Is it really just all in Jeremy’s head? Anna and Vicki won’t appear if Jeremy doesn’t think about them.

Bonnie’s Return:
Bonnie is finally back after three episodes. Her reunion with Jeremy is kind of awkward to watch. I still don’t see the chemistry between those two.

Bill:
Sheriff Forbes brings Damon to the cellar where she is keeping Bill captured. She asks Damon to compel Bill to leave town, but Damon had his little fun first before completing his assignment. He bites Bill to check for vervain before compelling him to leave town and erasing his memory of ever knowing Caroline as a vampire.

Finding the Necklace:
Gloria is using her powers to locate the necklace. She’s having trouble until she holds Rebecca’s hand to enhance her powers. Meanwhile, the necklace burns Elena’s skin. Whatever Gloria did to locate the necklace, had caused the necklace to burn Elena. Elena takes it off, but the damage is already done. Gloria had heard that Elena was talking about Stefan. But she tells Klaus that she needs more time.

Switching Salvatores:
While Bonnie tries to find an identification spell that will help her find out what’s going on with the necklace, Caroline grills Elena about Damon. She calls it “switching salvatores”. Elena denies it saying that nothing is going on with her and Damon. I almost want to believe her.

Alaric’s Warning:
Alaric is being very fickle this season. He started off being a bum, brooding, and not caring about anything. Now, he’s trying to be a great role model for Jeremy and looking after Elena. He tells Damon to “take a beat” with Elena. Seriously, it’s Damon we’re talking about. He’s not going to listen to anyone.

Gloria:
Don’t mess with witches. Especially one who’s been alive for over 100 years. Stefan goes back to the bar to ask Gloria what she saw about the necklace. Gloria says she heard the girls were talking about Stefan. She did not tell Klaus because she doesn’t want to help Klaus, but she wants the necklace for herself. Stefan isn’t going to help her get it, obviously; so, she tortures him with weird voodoo witchcraft. She’s finally able to get inside Stefan’s head and sees all the memories he’s had of Elena. Just when Gloria finds out the reason why Stefan wants to keep Elena away from Klaus, Gloria is stabbed in the neck by Katherine. I guess this would be the last time we see of Gloria. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank goodness for Katherine.

Super-human Power:
Apparently, Bill can fight off vampire mind control. How is that even possible, really? He’s told Caroline that if she practice hard enough, she can suppress the vampire part out of her completely. I thought he was a nut job for saying that. Apparently, he’s been practicing for decades to fight off mind control. I am finding it hard to believe that anyone can do that, but Bill can and Damon’s compulsion didn’t work on him. He doesn’t leave town and threatens Damon that he would out him to the counsel. Big mistake for you, Bill. Don’t threaten Damon unless you have more power than him.

Of course Damon wants to kill him and if it wasn’t for Caroline, Bill would probably be dead.

Not Stefan:
Elena got angry at Damon for hurting Bill. Damon not only hurt Bill, but he killed Alaric. Don’t worry, Rick was wearing his ring, so he’ll be waking up in no time. Damon was upset at Rick and Elena both for making him change from who he is. Elena wants him to be better. Damon doesn’t want to change, not even for Elena.

Katherine’s New Partner in Crime:
After helping Stefan escape from Gloria’s torture, Katherine wants to know what Stefan’s diabolical plan is regarding Klaus. Stefan finally tells her about the time in 1920s and how Klaus and Rebecca were running from someone. Katherine connects the dots and figures out that it was a hunter. She’s heard about him centuries ago. Stefan wants to know more about the hunter. It’s interesting how a vampire that can’t be killed would be afraid of a vampire hunter. How powerful is this vampire hunter? Why would Klaus be scared of him? Is this the reason why he wants to create a hybrid army?

Katherine wants to team up with Stefan to make a move against Klaus. Stefan doesn’t trust Katherine enough to let her in on his plan. He tells her to look elsewhere for a partner in crime and she does. She finds it in Damon. Katherine pretends to be Elena and gets the necklace from Bonnie. She asks Damon to join her and Damon accepts the offer. Everyone around him is telling him to “take a beat” anyway. What does he have to lose?

Stefan’s Diabolical Plan:
Seriously Stefan? Your diabolical plan to find out about the hunter was to ask Rebecca? She’s not going to betray Klaus ever again after Klaus killed her in the 20s. And at least pretend to enjoy it when you kiss her. Rebecca sees right through him and tells Klaus she thinks there’s something wrong with Stefan and that he’s asking about Michael. Michael must be the hunter.

Klaus knocks Stefan out and brings him back to Mystic Falls. Things are going to get bloody again in Mystic Falls.

FAMILY TIES — Still in Chicago, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) uses Gloria (guest star Charmin Lee), a witch he knew long ago, to help him track down missing information that will explain why his plan isn’t working. Gloria’s spells reveal intriguing glimpses of the truth, but she soon realizes she needs Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) knowledge to complete the puzzle. When Stefan suddenly finds himself in danger, help comes from a surprising ally. Back in Mystic Falls, a frustrating new enemy pushes Damon (Ian Somerhalder) over the brink and he lashes out in a way that will have lasting consequences. Caroline (Candice Accola) struggles with her own emotional issues, even as she tries to help Elena (Nina Dobrev) face her feelings. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) makes a brief but disturbing breakthrough with one of his ghostly visitors, leaving him more confused than ever. Finally, Bonnie (Kat Graham) has a strange encounter that will affect everyone. Matt Davis also stars. Wendey Stanzler directed the episode written by Brian Young (#304).

“You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late, before you are six or seven or eight,
to hate all the people your relatives hate, you’ve got to be carefully taught!”

From the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific

It is always interesting to trace the history of a “Family Feud”.   Blood is truly thicker than water, and to paraphrase an old saying “Family – can’t live with them, and can’t live without them.”  You can’t ever really get rid of your family.  Even if you stop talking to them, move away or kill them off, you’re carrying the family DNA – and no matter how hard you try, you can’t run away from yourself!

And it’s not just the DNA.  I was adopted as an infant, but I am so much a product of my mother’s upbringing, the DNA scarcely matters at all.  I bore no physical resemblance to either of my parents, but I do carry shared family history with me, and I have brought parts of it to my own family.

Fortunately, I did not inherit the plague on the houses of the Mystic Falls Founding Families – bigotry.

My father was the original archetype for Archie Bunker – right down to the American flag pin on his lapel.  My Dad never met a race or nationality that he didn’t have a “label” for – and it was never a complimentary one.

As the song in South Pacific says “You’ve got to be carefully taught.”  Prejudices develop starting when we are very young – we are taught to hate.  We are usually taught to hate what is different.  And our teachers are usually our parents!  It’s hard to resist our parents’ instruction because we have been conditioned to believe the people who love us most would only do what is best for us.

I know my father’s bigotry came from fear – and my mother did an incredible job making sure none of his prejudices rubbed off on me.  (This later had the effect of me “teasing” him about it at every available opportunity!  To his credit, he never got angry with me, but I know it must have stung.)

In Mystic Falls, the supernatural creatures (particularly vampires) represent any group of individuals who are or have been oppressed because they are “different” – women, black, gays, Muslims.  The list, sadly, goes on and on and on.  Bill Forbes and his generation represent the fears passed from generation to generation and manifested in the present day.

In the case of Bill Forbes and his daughter, Caroline, the bigotry is about an aspect of Caroline’s person-hood – now, at this point in time – that is as much a part of her as her gender.  That is what makes this conflict particularly difficult.  I can’t think of anything worse for a child than not having total acceptance from a parent.

Bigotry seems always to be with us.  Just when you think you have eliminated it, it springs back to life.  Sometimes it is an old hatred reignited.
Just as often, a new target it identified and the propaganda machine cranks up.  We have only to look around us today to see it.

One thing is certain – in power struggles of any kind, there is always going to be an enemy to fight against – real or imagined.  In the case of
bigotry, it is always imagined.  As human beings, our similarities far outweigh our differences.  Our hatred is in our minds – a matter of
perception.

But there is hope – from the new generation.  Having become what their parents most fear, Caroline and Tyler represent that hope.  First they had to accept themselves – their “new”selves.  Then, they accepted each other with their new aspects.   And finally, they have penetrated the hatred of the prior generation by confronting their mothers.

Smart choice.  A mother will nearly always protect her children from harm – even – and perhaps especially – when it comes from within the family.  I was absolutely certain that when Liz Forbes came into a scene between Caroline and Bill, she would come with gun drawn.

Mothers are a force of nature all their own.  They usually lead from the heart, especially where family is involved. It is, therefore, particularly difficult on them when there is a family rift and they feel forced to choose sides – most can’t.   Especially where her children are involved.

This is the central theme of the movie “Sophie’s Choice”, based on the book by William Styron.  When it was published in 1979, I was 26 years
old and not yet a mother.  But when I read the part where the choice is made, it was like a kick to the heart – that is how powerful this maternal feeling is within women.  It is equally heart-rending in the film, and is an illustration of the tragedy that ensues when one is forced to make a
choice between two unendurable options.

This same situation has occurred within the Original Family.  We knew from previous mythology disclosures (thank you Elijah) that Papa Original, upon discovering Mama Original’s shameful secret, killed off Klaus’ sire and his whole wolf family.

Family honor is deeply felt, and when there is a sense of betrayal, revenge is sure to follow.  But relationships among family members are complex things.  Among members who are close, the party perceived as the betrayer may have allies – and suddenly there is division.  Some might like to stay neutral (“We are family, after all.”)

But the ones with the strongest sense of betrayal (who are usually also the ones with the most “power” to lose) often insist that everyone chose a side in order to demonstrate a show of loyalty.  I am betting Mama Original was bereft.  Whoever killed her, I think it was probably merciful,
for surely her heart was broken.

Despite the fact that Papa Original’s hatred of his wife’s betrayal landed squarely on the product of that betrayal – Klaus – it didn’t happen until family ties were created.  And those ties run deep.  Otherwise, why is Klaus carrying them all around with him?  We are not quick to give up on family, even when we are hurt.

Just as Papa Original had his revenge, so did Klaus.  He is feeling the same feelings that Papa did – that we all do when someone we love turns on us.  Elijah had the same feelings, and wanted his own form of revenge.  And we know which side Klaus’ little sister, Rebekah, chose – if not why!

Family – Betrayal – Revenge – it’s a twisted, bitter, complex mess.

And a very juicy plot-line!

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Elena, Damon, and Alaric went to Tennessee to find Stefan, Matt and Jeremy contacted Vicki’s Ghost, Klaus’ master plan fell apart when he couldn’t turn werewolves into hybrids, Stefan saved Damon’s life, Mrs. Lockwood finally learned the truth about her werewolf family, and Caroline was held hostage by her father.

This week episode, The End of the Affair, we go back in time to the roaring 20’s.

Katherine’s Back:
I was wondering where she went when season 3 began. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it’s good to see Katherine. She’s not really on my “bad guy” list this year. Klaus took her spot last year right around the ritual episode and he’s been reigning ever since. Back to Kat… what is she really up to this time around? She’s not running from Klaus anymore. Klaus let her go. Is she trailing Stefan like Damon thinks? Does Katherine really care for Stefan like she said she did?

The Windy City:
Klaus takes Stefan back to the city that meant something special to him, but he doesn’t take Stefan back to just Chicago. Klaus takes Stefan back to Chicago circa 1920’s.

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for the 20’s. One of my favorite books, The Great Gatsby is set in the 20’s and I’ve always liked the excitement of speakeasies, flapper girls, and the whole era of prohibition.

Stefan circa 1920’s was a a true ripper. He lavished in the lifestyle of a vampire. He completed shut off his humanity. Klaus keeps telling Stefan that Chicago was magical. Stefan doesn’t seem to remember much of it. Up until now, Klaus hasn’t really told Stefan why he wanted Stefan to come along with him on his journey. His hybrid army failed and now he wants some answers. Apparently, he’s going to get it from his favorite witch, who lives in Chicago.

Caroline:
Gosh, Caroline’s evil dad is such a douche! How can you be so messed up that you can torture your daughter like this? Evil Daddy wants to know how Caroline can walk in the sun, only to use it against her to torture her. He takes Caroline’s daylight ring off and burns her skin with sunlight. He says he’s trying to condition her and to change her to repress her vampire part. It’s not going to work in a day, Bill. It took Stefan 30 plus years to stay on bunny diet. Poor Caroline… Too bad we can’t call Child Services on him.

Three Becomes Two:
This time around, Alaric doesn’t come along for the adventure with Damon and Elena. Damon finds out where Stefan and Klaus are from Katherine. They go on a road trip to Chicago to find Stefan. Damon brings a bit of light reading for Elena for the car ride. One of Stefan’s diaries. The ones about the 20’s and how Stefan killed innocent people. Damon tells Elena that he wants her to be prepared for what she’s about to see in Chicago, but I think he’s gloating a bit and doing this on purpose to show Elena that Stefan’s not always the goody-too-shoe that Elena makes him out to be.

Gloria:
This is who Klaus came to see in Chicago. His favorite witch, Gloria. She sang in the speakeasy club back in the 20’s and now she runs the same bar looking no older than 45. Apparently she’s using herbs and spells to slow down her aging. Seriously, can I have some of those? I want to be forever young.

Gloria tells Klaus that it’s obvious he did something wrong because he couldn’t create hybrids. She says every spell has a loophole and to find out what it is, she needs to contact the witch who created the spell. The original witch. I didn’t know that there’s such thing as the original witch. Because the original witch is dead, Gloria needs help to contact her. She requests Klaus to bring her Rebecca. I don’t know who Rebecca is, but it doesn’t look like Klaus wants to bring Rebecca to Gloria. Gloria says Rebecca has what she needs.

Stefan and Klaus – Old Friends?:
Stefan finds a picture of him and Klaus from the 20’s with their arms around each other at Gloria’s bar. It turns out that Klaus knew Stefan from way before Stefan ever met Elena. And Rebecca is Klaus’ sister. Stefan was fooling around with Rebecca back at the speakeasy club when Klaus met Stefan for the first time. Klaus takes Stefan to the place where he keeps all his family members in the coffins. He pulls the dagger out of Rebecca’s heart. Stefan doesn’t seem to remember ever meeting Rebecca. It turns out that Stefan doesn’t remember meeting Klaus or Rebecca because Klaus compelled Stefan. One night, they were having fun in the speakeasy club and people started to shoot around with wooden bullets. Rebecca says, “he must be here”. Then, Klaus takes her away and compels Stefan to not remember them. That night, Rebecca left something of hers that she really treasures. Her necklace that a witch gave her. The very same necklace that Elena now wears around her neck.

Stefan’s Chi-Town Pad:
Stefan has his home away from home in Chicago. Damon takes Elena there to find Stefan and also to show her what the Stefan did in his ripper days. There is a secret closet behind the shelves in his apartment where he keeps alcohol and the wall full of victims’ names. There must be at least 200 names on the wall. They don’t call him the ripper for nothing.

The Close Call:
Ok, Damon… how can you be so stupid to leave Elena alone at Stefan’s apartment? Didn’t he think that Stefan and Klaus might stop by while he’s away? Elena hides in the secret closet, but when Klaus opens the shelves to show Stefan the list of names, I thought that was it. Klaus is going to see Elena. Thankfully, it was Stefan who walks into the closet and sees Elena. They see each other for the first time since he left Mystic Falls and that was a really sweet moment where they didn’t need to say a word.

Operation Rescue Caroline:
Thank goodness for Tyler and Caroline’s mom. Because of them, Caroline is rescued. I’m really glad to see that Sheriff Forbes is completely on team Caroline. She may not be team vampire but she’s definitely going to protect her daughter. After going through something like this, all Caroline needs is a friend and Tyler is there for her. A vampire and a werewolf… let the forbidden love story begin.

The Confrontation:
Damon gets Stefan away from Klaus so they can talk. Stefan tells Damon why Elena is the key to Klaus’ master plan. Damon finally understands why Klaus’ plan did not work. He goes inside the bar to keep Klaus occupied when Elena and Stefan talk. Elena begs Stefan to come home and tries to shoot him with vervain, but Stefan is to fast for her. It’s hard to let go of someone who you are in love with. Even when Stefan tells her that it’s never going to be the same anymore, he never wants to see her again, and he doesn’t want to be with her; I’m finding it hard to believe Stefan’s words. He’s doing all this to protect her. Yes, my heart breaks a little in this scene.

Key Points:

  • Katherine is in Chicago. Katherine was also in Chicago back in the 20’s at that club. She witnessed the whole thing with Stefan, Klaus, and Rebecca.
  • Elena’s necklace is the key to contact the original witch.
  • Elena is the key to complete Klaus’ master plan.

Katherine and Stefan see each other again next week. Damon is back to feeding on people? Bonnie is back. Let’s hope that Klaus never finds that necklace or Elena.

Every week, we are treated to this show where there are enough standout moments in one episode for an entire series.   These are my picks for outstanding moments of Episode 302.

Daddy’s Home!

It seems that for most of the Twitterverse, the end of this episode had a “head exploding moment” with the reveal of Caroline’s “Daddy”.

I am feeling my age.  There had been chatter on the web that Jack Coleman would make an appearance as Caroline’s father.  I am feeling as if I am the only one who recognized him when he stepped across Carol Lockwood’s threshold.   Is that because I am old enough to have watched him as Steven Carrington on “Dynasty”?  He was, of course, younger then – and blonder, but he doesn’t look all that different.  At least, not to me.

As soon as he entered the Lockwood Mansion, I immediately Tweeted “Daddy’s Home”.  No one responded.  I didn’t even feel guilty that perhaps I’d Tweeted a “spoiler” – although perhaps I should have….

In any case, Bill Forbes is a direct descendant of the original Sheriff Williams Forbes, one of the Founding Families of Mystic Falls (and yes, I will be updating the TVD Family Tree to reflect that.)  This explains his extreme hatred of vampires – which apparently extends to his own daughter, our Sweet Caroline.

Although Carol Lockwood tries to call him off, he’s determined.  “My family has been committed to this fight for years.  I know what my obligations are.”

Hatred this ingrained over so many years is going to be hard to overcome.

Speculation generally doesn’t work out for me, but in this case, I’m taking a shot, pun definitively intended.   I am betting that the present day Sheriff Forbes shoots her ex to protect their daughter.  We shall see.

But I Did Everything I Was Told!

In the scene where it is clear that Klaus’s dreams of his hybrid army are going awry, my first thought when he uttered this line was “Told by whom?”  Interesting plotline there and I am anxious to see where it leads.  My suspicion is that witches are involved.

But I also had a major flashback because of the way Joseph Morgan delivered the line.  Generally, he’s great at being sinister with an impish twist.  But in this moment, he was as petulant as a small child who’s just been told he won’t be getting any dessert after all.

The flashback took me to all the way back to 1967 – and an episode of Star Trek entitled “The Squire of Gothos”.  If you haven’t seen it, you should.  It is one of the all time best episodes of that series.  A fabulous actor – William Campbell – played a character named “Trelane”.  He caused Capt. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise all kinds of trouble for the entire episode.

And at the end, when Capt. Kirk is about to be hanged by Trelane, it is revealed that Trelane is a child of an alien race who has been given his own planet and told he can play with other creatures as long as he behaves – which he has not.  His “parents” (floating clouds with voices) apologize to Capt. Kirk and tell him their son will be punished, as Trelane whines.

And it is that scene which sprang to mind.  When Klaus said “But I did everything I was told” I saw the whining Trelane, stamping his foot and repeating “But you said I could, you said I could…”

So what I imagine was supposed to be a very serious moment was, for me, hilarious.  That doesn’t mean I didn’t catch on to the part where Klaus kicks back into gear when he sees something in Stefan’s face in reaction to the “killed the doppelganger” part of the recipe.  It just didn’t have the impact it should have.

Lost in Translation

In an episode that moved so many plot threads forward – Jeremy and the ghosts of Vicki and Anna, Tyler’s werewolf reveal to his Mom, the introduction of Bill Forbes, and Klaus’s plans not working out that well – the moments that stand out for me are always the ones with the strongest emotions, and they often involve Damon.

Blood is thicker than water and we can always counts on the Salvatore Brothers to be there for each other, regardless of what they may say.   So although Stefan is not happy about being tracked (“What part of ‘Don’t follow me anymore,’ got lost in the translation?”) he is not about to let his brother get eaten by a rabid hybrid – especially when he’s got a rabid hybrid bite of his own to worry about.

As a result, Damon later admits to Elena “I changed my mind because even in his darkest place my brother still can’t let me die. So I figure I owe him the same in return. I’ll help you bring him back.”

Damon loves his brother, but he also – still – loves his brother’s girl.  He’s going to take care of her because that is what he promised to do – and I’ve always maintained that Damon is a man of honor.

However, doing the honorable thing often hurts.  For Damon, it hurts badly and often.  So Damon interrogates Elena about why she abandoned her search for Stefan when she was so close.  And he won’t let her off easy.  She cares about him, and he knows it, but he needs to hear her say it.  When Elena asks why knowing it isn’t enough, Damon let’s her have it.

He’ll help her bring Stefan back but “I want you to remember the things you felt while he was gone.”

A hundred years cannot repair a moment’s loss of honor.

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Elena turned 18, Jeremy kept seeing Vicki and Anna, Damon tracked down Stefan and Klaus, Klaus tracked down his first werewolf victim and turned him into a hybrid, Tyler and Caroline hooked up, and Mrs. Lockwood shot Caroline with vervain darts.

In tonight episode, The Hybrid, Klaus tried to create an army of hybrids with the help of Stefan.

Damon Giving Up:
After what happened in the last episode with Stefan, Damon gave up on getting Stefan back. I can’t really blame Damon, though. It’s hard to still believe there is hope in Stefan when he ruthlessly killed your fake girlfriend. He didn’t believe Stefan was ever going to come back even when Elena tells him about the phone call.

Elena Not Giving Up:
Even when Damon told her that Stefan is never coming back (at least not in her lifetime), Elena still doesn’t give up on Stefan. When she couldn’t get help from Damon, she goes to Alaric, who had moved back into his apartment and still brooding. Elena also asked Tyler about the wolfpack hangout location on full moon in Tennessee. Most werewolves stay loyal to their pack and to each other, so this is the kind of information that a werewolf should never tell an outsider. But Tyler feels responsible for Stefan being in this situation because he was the one who bit Damon. When it really comes down to it, Elena really doesn’t have anything to worry about. She has friends who would be there for her when she needs them. Who needs a hybrid army? You should really take notes, Klaus.

Jeremy and Matt – Ghosthunters:
Jeremy did some internet research about contacting with ghosts after Vicki asked him to help her in the previous episode. So, he goes to Matt, the only family member that Vicki was closed to. Matt was against it at first because it’s too painful for him to go through Vicki’s personal items. However, Matt changes his mind when Vicki communicated with him with a picture frame. It’s a picture of he and Vicki at Christmas that he lays it face down on the table. When he looks back after a few seconds, the picture frame is standing up on the table. I don’t believe in ghosts but I would be questioning my beliefs if that happened to me, too.

Jeremy does get in contact with Vicki. She tells him that she can come back and she wants Jeremy to help her. Then, the window breaks and Anna tells Jeremy not to trust Vicki. This is more twisted than a knot of yarn. How does Vicki know that she could come back to life? Why doesn’t Anna want Jeremy to trust Vicki? If Vicki could come back, Anna can come back too, right? So then, why wouldn’t she wants Jeremy to help them? What really is Vicki’s plan?

Matt and Tyler – Friends Again?:
Matt and Tyler’s friendship has been on the rocks for a while now. Matt is jealous of Tyler and Caroline’s relationship or friendship or whatever they have, but in this episode, it looks like things might be looking up for Matt and Tyler. Matt offers to help Tyler when he turns at the full moon. I’m really proud of Matt in this episode. He really is trying. I hope they can repair their friendship and be bros again.

Mrs. Lockwood’s Plan:
There’s a new guy in town and he’s not a vampire or a warlock. Mrs. Lockwood called the guy named Bill to help her with the Caroline situation. Before she did that, she put vervain in Tyler’s coffee to test to see if he’s a vampire. Oh, Mrs. Lockwood, you really are clueless. You have no idea what’s going on and you don’t know anything about your own family. How could you be married to someone for more than 15 years and not know that your husband is a werewolf? Mrs. Lockwood asked Bill for help and he tells her they have to do what they have to do even if the vampire is Caroline. She finally learns the truth about her family when Tyler shows her when he’s transitioning into a werewolf.

Three’s Company:
Elena, Alaric, and Damon are working together again to save Stefan. Elena and Alaric drive to Tennessee to find Stefan. Of course Alaric tells Damon and he follows them to Tenessee. Can I just say that, I loved the part where Damon threw Elena into the lake? I would throw her in the lake too if I were Damon. What a reckless girl. She would really do anything for love.

A Hybrid Army:
Klaus’ whole plan is to create an army of hybrid. He wants to create his own race of monsters, an army so big that no one would dare to declare war on. Klaus and Stefan find a pack of werewolves on the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and Klaus turns every single werewolf into a hybrid.

An Error in the Master Plan:
Klaus’s plan to turn the werewolves into hybrids doesn’t turn out well. Actually, the plan breaks down before he can say hybrid army. All the werewolves who have been turned start to bleed from every whole in their bodies and most of them bled to death. Klaus tells Stefan that he did everything right. He killed a witch, a vampire, a werewolf, and a doppleganger when he broke the curse. It should have worked. He should be able to turn them. Well, Klaus, it didn’t work because the doppleganger did not die. Klaus may have broken the curse on him and transitioned into a full hybrid, because the doppleganger lived, he can’t turned werewolves into hybrids. Yeah, Elena is definitely not out of Klaus’ To-Kill list.

Ray:
After he was turned, Ray ran away from Klaus, bit Stefan, and was captured by Damon, Alaric, and Elena. He turns into a werewolf before the full moon rises since he’s transitioning into a hybrid. Hybrids can turn into a werewolf whenever they want to and they can walk in the sun without being burned. Ray goes after Damon and if it wasn’t for Stefan ripping Ray’s heart out, Damon would have been bitten by Ray. Ray’s life on the show is short lived, but who’s really going to miss him anyway?

A Change of Heart:
When Stefan saves Damon’s life in the woods, Damon changes his mind about giving up on his brother. Even when he’s being the Ripper-Stefan, he still can’t let his brother die. The real Stefan is still there and there’s still hope for Stefan. Damon promises Elena that he would help her bring Stefan back, but not before making her realizes her feelings toward him. Elena was hell bent on Operation Rescue Stefan until Ray became a threat to Damon. She aborted the mission because she didn’t want Damon to get killed. I was completely team Stefan and Elena since the series started, but now I’m not too sure. Nice work, Damon! You warmed your way through to my heart.

The Cliffhanger:
So, guess who Bill is. He’s Caroline’s dad. What kind of father wants to hurt his own daughter? Apparently Bill Forbes does.

It looks like next week is the roaring 20’s. I can’t wait to see the Gatsby-esq wardrobes and the speakeasy era.
