The Vampire Diaries Spoiler Roundup

by Deb on September 3, 2011

Welcome to the weekly The Vampire Diaries Spoiler roundup, I will be providing you with spoilers from various news sites like Watch With Kristen and Ask Ausiello and EW. You will receive all of the spoilers from the week all in one place in this weekly article. This week the spoilers focus on Jeremy.

Harrison: Can. Not. Wait. For The Vampire Diaries to return. Can you tell us what’s up with Jeremy seeing the dead chicks? How long will they be on? And does this mean things are over with Bonnie?
Nothing like some “dead chicks” to really liven up the place, eh? I’m hearing some very good things about that storyline—It’s gonna be twisty and turny and cool. Also hearing Malese Jow (Anna) and Kayla Ewell (Vicki) will be in about a handful of episodes (somewhere around six) and they will be recurring throughout the season. So you’ll get some fun “dead chick” splashes there for a while, but they won’t be around enough to muck things up with Bonnie. Win-win-win.

I was touched on so many levels by this past week’s episode that it is difficult to know where to start.  As with all the episodes of this show, there were many excellent lines in the script, but four in particular stood out for me.

John Gilbert: “It’s no easy task being an ordinary parent to an extraordinary child.”

The opening line of John Gilbert’s letter to Elena struck me at a deeply personal level because I am the mother of an extraordinary child myself.  Not in the way that Elena Gilbert is extraordinary, but extraordinary nonetheless.

So when John Gilbert’s voice read what he’d put on the page, his words resonated with me in a powerfully personal way.  As parents, we always want to do our best for our children.  But we are human and we often come up short.  I am sure that any parent would make the sacrifice that John Gilbert did for their child, whether that child were extraordinary or not.

As much as I have disliked the character of John Gilbert in his appearances on the show, it was really nice to see that he had a noble side after all.  A  life or death challenge often brings out the best one has to offer.  It certainly did in John Gilbert’s case.

Rest in peace, John.

Katherine Pierce: “I didn’t let love get in the way.”

Contrasting with the ultimate expression of love – sacrificing your life to save another – was the completely selfish act of Katherine, who betrayed Jenna in order to save herself.   Katherine Pierce is one of the most totally selfish beings I’ve ever encountered.  And Damon is right – she will spend eternity alone.

Because even when you are surrounded by others, if you don’t have love in your heart, you are utterly alone.

Contrasting sharply with Katherine’s selfishness was Jenna’s unselfishness in her final hours. Admitting to Elena that when the call came for her to be guardian, she had wished it had gone out to someone else, she showed up despite her personal desires.

And despite her feelings of inadequacy, she tried to do the best she could in a role for which she was ill-prepared and perhaps ill-suited.  In her final act, she made a desperate attempt to save Elena by taking a bite out of Greta.  Unfortunately, Klaus had his way.

Rest in peace, Jenna.

Elijah:  “Sometimes there’s honor in revenge.”

No, Elijah, I think what you really wanted to say is “blood is thicker than water”.

After all his assurances to Stefan, Bonnie, and the rest of the gang, Elijah sacrificed his integrity at the altar of family ties.

Elijah is so totally devoted to his family that he allowed himself to be swayed by Klaus, who told him that he did not destroy the bodies of the Original family members, and he can take Elijah to them.  Ah, Klaus, a master at knowing everyone’s weakness and exploiting it fully.

Damon was right – they should not have trusted Elijah.  Everyone has a weakness – even a 1000 year old Original Vampire!

Andy why was Damon right?  Because Damon and Elijah are reflections of each other.  I mentioned in a previous post that I believe Damon (and Elijah) lead with their hearts – whereas Stefan leads with his head.

And people who lead with their heart – while almost always well-intended – often make a bad situation worse (Damon and Elena in “The Last Day” comes to mind.)  Whatever else you can say about Damon, he is not stupid.  In real life, we don’t always see our own failings, but have no trouble seeing them when manifested in someone else.  That’s what makes them stand out to us – they are familiar in some way – a way we are, perhaps, not ready to admit to ourselves.

Damon was right because he knew instinctively that leading with the heart can lead to that nasty thing we call “unintended consequences”.

We also learned that Elijah is Klaus’ older brother, something that Damon and the rest have known all along.   As Stefan’s older brother, who is in a better position than Damon to know just how far family ties extend and what Elijah might do in the clinches?

Yes, Damon was right, but who among us would have made a different choice than Elijah did?  Blood really is thicker than water.

Jeremy Gilbert:  “I still have you.”

At the end of this episode, we see the essence of family – not in the traditional sense, but family is not always about blood ties.  The mourners are a unique group.  The situation is informed by who is present as much as it is who is absent.

Elena and Jeremy have lost everyone – they are truly orphans now.  But to paraphrase Jeremy, they still have each other.

And so do the Salvatore brothers.  Despite everything, Stefan wasted no time in declaring that they will find a way to cure Damon’s werewolf bite.

Caroline is the child of an absentee father and a mother who hates what Caroline has become.  Bonnie was essentially raised by her grandmother, who is gone.  We never see her parents at all.  And Alaric, the lone adult in the group, has lost both of the women he loved.

And who is not there?  Tyler, of course, but whether or not this is due to his wounds or for another reason is not clear.  Until he tells Stefan, Damon is the only one who knows Tyler inflicted a bite on him.  Perhaps Tyler, knowing Damon, Stefan and Caroline were attending the funeral, just doesn’t feel comfortable among so many vamps.  No way to know at this point.

But the most telling absence in this group is Matt.  Matt, who is as alone as Katherine Pierce.  Matt, who just can’t handle “all this”.  Matt, with no Father, an absentee Mother, a dead sister, and a lot of responsibility – school, a job, and bills to pay.  His personal life is in such a mess, he can’t handle all the drama of the supernaturals in his intimate circle.

Poor Matt – this group of intimate friends is exactly what he does need, but he can’t see it.  He’s on overload.

These friends at the Mystic Falls cemetery are a family.   And I believe that as we approach the end of Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, we close the chapter on the saga of “The Curse” and open a chapter on “Family” in all its many forms.  As Julie Plec herself said “The show, at its core, is about family. It’s about the love of family.”

I believe we will continue to see each of the remaining regular characters continue to develop in ways we can only imagine.

And we will not lose Damon to a werewolf bite.  As I said in my prior post, the Elixir may save him.  A witch and a spell may save him.  Or something completely unexpected may save him.

Ultimately, I’m betting love will save him.

Stefan is right – whatever it takes, they will find a way.  Stefan is not going to lose his older brother – not now.

I can hardly believe there is only one episode remaining in Season 2.  I am already wondering how to get through the summer without my weekly fix of this wonderful show.  Thankfully, I have Season 1 on DVD, and Season 2 on my DVR.

But the creativity of the story lines on this show reminds of those wonderful books that you can’t put down because you want to know what’s on the next page! I have stayed up for hours plowing through books like that many times.

In this case, there is no book, and the wait is beyond our control!  We are forced to wait until the fall to learn what happens next!!  The wait is already killing me!

An Unwanted House Guest – Recap

by Cathy on February 25, 2011

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, we got to see Lexie again, Damon threw a dinner party to stage operation murder Elijah, Jenna and Alaric’s relationship is on the rocks, Uncle John got his ring back, Bonnie got her powers taken away, Elena killed Elijah, and Katherine got out of the tomb.

This week episode, The House Guest, is thrilling and keeps you on the edge of your seat with plot twists and turns.

Games Katherine Play:
Katherine must have been really bored being cooped up in that tomb. Now that she’s out, she’s back to playing her games trying to impersonate Elena. I have to admit, I didn’t know who was who during the opening scene. And… she’s toying around with Damon’s feelings again. I’m glad he didn’t fall for it though. I always feel skeptical about Damon when it comes to Katherine, but he’s been proving that he’s over Katherine for about ten episodes now. Stay strong, Damon.

Fireproof Elijah:
Seriously, this guy is indestructible. I was wondering why Damon and Stefan didn’t burn him in the previous episode, but now I see that Elijah can’t be burned. Damon tried to torch him with a fire hose but his dead body stay in tact. How is that possible? What is so special about the Originals? What are they really made out of? Until Elijah’s body turned to ash, I refuse to believe that he’s dead. Elijah is definitely not out of the picture yet.

Witches’ Massacre:
Elijah wants to find the place where the witches were massacred a few centuries ago. We didn’t know why he wanted to find it until tonight. Katherine explains that when a witch dies violently, they release the mystical energy, marking the place of their death. So the place where the witches were massacred would have an enormous amount of mystical energy. Elijah didn’t have any weapon to kill Klaus. He was planning on using the site of the witches’ massacre for the Martins to channel enough power from the mystical energy to kill Klaus.

Papa Witch and Baby Witch:
I really don’t like these two. They were bad news from the beginning. I had a bad feeling about them when they showed up to town in the episode 209. They made Stefan and Bonnie believed that they are willing to work together, but Dr. Witch had other plans. He’s going to bring Elijah back. He did a spell that send Luka’s soul to find Elijah. Since Elijah’s body is at the Salvatore house, Luka’s soul walks inside the house to find Elijah. He tries to pull the dagger out of Elijah’s body, but Katherine was there to stop it from happening. Dr. Martin, being the stupid witch, told Luka to kill Katherine with a steak. Seriously, how stupid can you get? Katherine’s not at the house alone. Damon is there. Damon’s not a big fan of Katherine but he’s not going to let Elijah come back to life. Luka staked Katherine in the chest but missed her heart. Damon came down to the basement just in time to use the fire hose on Luka. Papa Witch brought his son back to their house, but it was too late. Flames engulfed Luka and he was burned to death. Dr. Martin said that Stefan and Damon are their enemies and that “they need to be dealt with”. Well, look who dealt with whom? Don’t mess with the Salvatores, Dr. Martin. You’ll end up dead.

After Luka’s untimely death, Dr. Martin put his anger into motion. He did a spell to find Elena. He threatened Stefan and went out on a mission to find Elena. He found Elena at the Grill and caused a commotion to take her with him, but Stefan had other plans. Stefan got Elena back home safely, but Dr. Martin was waiting for her at the Gilbert house. He tried to attack Elena, only it wasn’t Elena. It was Katherine, who switched clothes with Elena at the Grill. Katherine bit Dr. Martin and sucked the blood out of him. C’est la vie, Dr. Martin.

Matt and Caroline – Eternal Flame:
Caroline expressed her feelings for Matt by singing a song to him in front of everyone at the Grill.  That was pretty much the cutest moment in their relationship. Matt just walked up onto the stage and kissed Caroline in the middle of the song. But all good things must come to an end. Dr. Martin caused a commotion at the Grill and stabbed Matt in the neck with a broken beer bottle. Caroline had to feed her blood to heal him. After that she told him the truth about who she is, but just like any normal human, Matt didn’t take it well. He freaked out and started accusing Caroline of hurting Vicki. This could be the deal breaker for Matt.

John Gilbert’s Plan:
The truth finally comes out about John and Isobel’s plan and why he wanted to help Katherine get out of the tomb. They want Stefan and Damon out of Elena’s life. He offered Katherine a deal. He’d help her get out of the tomb but she would have to stay and help kill Klaus. Or he would kill Stefan. Another part of the deal is that Katherine can only keep one of the brothers safe. Katherine chose Stefan. Ouch! Twist that knife in a little more deeper, Katherine. Poor Damon… A little tip to the writers… the more you hurt Damon, the more appealing and likable he becomes. Better watch out, Stefan. Damon’s slowly making his way up into that soft spot in my heart.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Bonnie got her powers back. Papa Witch gave her powers back right before he died. And apparently he wants Bonnie to kill Klaus and told her how to do it.
  • Alaric and Jenna are pretty much over. This is a one relationship that I don’t want to see ruined, but honestly I don’t think they can ever repair it. Too many lies have been told.
  • Isobel’s back. Like I said in my predictions last year, Doom aka Isobel came knocking the Gilbert’s door. Let the games begin.

We’ll have to wait a month to find out what happens next and like always, there are too many cliffhangers. What’s going to happen to Matt and Caroline? Isobel is in town and what is her next move? Did she succeed in trying to keep Klaus away from Mystic Falls? I’m excited to see her team up with Katherine. No TVD for the next month. What will I do with my Thursday nights?

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? – Recap

by Cathy on February 18, 2011

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Stefan and Elena’s romantic getaway turned deadly, when Tyler and Brady came to attack, Bonnie did a spell on Luka to reveal the truth behind Elijah’s deal with Elena, Damon got tortured by Jules and the wolf pack, and Tyler left Mystic Falls.

This week episode, The Dinner Party, reveals things about Stefan’s past in 1864.

Stefan killing Jonathan Gilbert:
Elena read in Jonathan Gilbert’s journal that Stefan was the one who killed him. I guess Jonathan was wearing the Gilbert ring when Stefan “killed” him otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to live to write about it.

Stefan circa 1864:
“It’s like you were Damon.” Elena told Stefan. It was nice to see the role reversal between the brothers. Stefan was Damon. All he cared about was blood and he didn’t care that he was hurting people. He shut off his humanity and chose not to feel.

Lexie’s back:
I’ve always liked Lexie. I didn’t like that Damon killed her in season one and it’s nice to see her back. Lexie was a good person from the beginning. She was the reason Stefan became the person he is today. Lexie showed Stefan how to change for the better.

Alaric, the rockstar:
Alaric kicked ass in this episode.  When he found out that Damon couldn’t use the dagger to kill Elijah, he stepped up and kill Elijah. Alaric may act like he doesn’t like Damon at times, but he really does have his buddy’s back.

Jenna and Alaric:
There you go, Jenna. Now, you’re starting to ask questions. The questions you should have been asking about 20 episodes ago. I don’t like to see their relationship crumble but if Alaric doesn’t tell her the truth soon, there will be no relationship to crumble. But even if Alaric tells Jenna everything, how could she ever forgive him? He’s been lying to her the entire time. She can never trust him again.

John Gilbert’s plan:
I knew I couldn’t trust John. He never liked Damon and it was very unlike him to be helping Damon kill Elijah. His plan was to kill two birds with one stone. He knew that Damon was going to kill Elijah and he knew that the dagger is harmful to all demon. The demon who uses the dagger to kill the original will also die. John wanted to kill Damon. It was stupid of Stefan to trust him.

That was only the first part of John’s plan though. His other plan was to get his ring back from Alaric. So, he forced a wedge between Jenna and Alaric which caused Alaric to give him the ring at the end. Does anyone here like John Gilbert? He’s as bad as Katherine.

The doppleganger sacrifice:
The trick about killing the original vampire is not to remove the dagger. Alaric made that mistake tonight at the Salvatore house and Elijah escaped. He went straight to Dr. Martin and asked him to find Elena. When Elijah showed up at the lakehouse, Elena was ready to surrender and also to make another deal. She told Elijah that if he is not willing to renegotiate a deal with her, she was going to stab herself to death. Even if Stefan gives her his blood to save her, she would kill herself to be turned into a vampire just like Katherine did. Elijah thought she was bluffing and didn’t believe her. That was until Elena stabbed herself in the stomach. Elijah panicked and made a promise to Elena. Elijah’s guard was down and he was focused on healing Elena that he did not see the dagger that Elena pushed through his heart. It turned out that Damon got to the lakehouse before Elijah did.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Bonnie’s powers got taken away by Dr. Martin. This is another guy I do not like. Poor Bonnie… how will she ever get her powers back?
  • Katherine is out of the tomb. Because Elijah died, the compulsion he did on Katherine wore off. Things are going to get more interesting now that she’s back. Stay away from Stefan, Kat.

So Elijah’s dead now. What’s going to happen to Luka and Dr. Martin? Will Dr. Martin give Bonnie her powers back? How are they going to find Klaus? Is Isobel going to be showing up in Mystic Falls soon? When are we going to see Tyler again? What will Katherine do next?

Previously on the Vampire Diaries: Jules’ werewolf friends came to Mystic Falls to attack the vampires, Caroline got tortured and betrayed, Tyler was confused, Uncle John played a concerned father role, and Damon met a new girl toy.

This week episode, Crying Wolf, gave us some answers about Elijah and the deal that Elena made with him.

Damon’s New Girl Toy:
Damon is smart. He knows how to keep appearance in town. He doesn’t want townspeople to start questioning why he doesn’t have a girl in his life, so he compels one to play the role of his girlfriend. It’s a win-win situation for him, really. She gives him the distraction he needs from Elena and the townspeople will think that he’s dating the “sexy reporter girl”. No one is going to question about his personal life and this way, he blends in like a normal human being.

The Dream Team – Part One (Damon & Alaric):
Damon and Alaric are working together again. Damon tells Alaric about the ash and the dagger that Uncle John gave him to kill Elijah. At least Damon doesn’t trust John, unlike Stefan. When John gave the dagger and the ash to Damon in the last episode and told him that this is how to kill an Original, I didn’t really believe him. After all, John and Isobel are working together to get Katherine out of the tomb. How could we really trust him after that? I’m glad Damon is questioning John’s intentions. At least one Salvatore thinks logically and realistically. Sorry, Stefan… I love you but you can be naive at times.

You know? Maybe I should stop calling Damon and Alaric, “the dream team”. They have not been doing such a great job lately. The last time they worked together to find out who Jules was, things ended badly. But the one thing they are good at is sitting around and drinking scotch whether it’s at the Grill or the Salvatore house.

The Dream Team – Part Two (Bonnie, Caroline, and Jeremy):
Caroline and Jeremy help Bonnie to get Luka to tell the truth about Elijah. Bonnie did a spell on Luka to put him in a trance and he didn’t really have any options but to answer her questions truthfully. Luka tells them that he and his dad are working for Elijah because of Klaus. Klaus is keeping his sister captive to help him break the curse without the doppleganger. Apparently, Klaus has been getting witches to help him break the curse for over centuries. Elijah had promised Luka and Jonas that if they help him, he will get Luka’s sister back. Luka also tells them that Elijah is going to go through with the sacrifice and then he is planning on killing Klaus, when Klaus is most vulnerable. I knew we couldn’t trust Elijah. Elena made a deal with a devil. Elijah is keeping all of Elena’s friends safe but he is planning on killing Elena in the end.

Vengeful Wolves:
Jules, Brady, and the new guy (Stevie) were mourning over the death of their friends when Stevie figured out why Mason wanted to find the moonstone. They think that the vampires in Mystic Falls are trying to break the sun and the moon curse. They tell Tyler about the curse and tricked him into helping them. They tell Tyler that if the werewolves break the curse, Tyler wouldn’t have to turn if he doesn’t want to. Tyler wouldn’t say no to that option and of course when Stevie shows him a picture of Katherine, he reveals to them that Elena is a doppleganger.

Jules, Stevie, and the rest of the pack go to the Salvatore house and attack Alaric and Damon. They want to know where the moonstone is, so they put Damon in chains and torture him. He is being tortured the same way Mason was. Karma’s a bitch, isn’t it Damon?

Romantic Getaway:
Stefan and Elena take a trip to the Gilbert family lakehouse. They spend some quality time together while discovering the hidden closet in her parents’ bedroom. They found the rest of Jonathan Gilbert’s journals in the closet and this isn’t even the most exciting thing about their romantic getaway. They get a visit from Brady and Tyler. Brady attack Stefan and if it wasn’t for Tyler, Stefan would have died and Elena would have been taken. I was disappointed in Tyler last week, but I was wrong about him. Tyler does care about his friends. He was just really confused last week. He just learned about his uncle’s death and he didn’t know who to trust. At the end of the day, Tyler doesn’t want to hurt his friends. Even though he wants to break the curse, he changes his mind as soon as he finds out that Elena was going to be sacrificed. Because of Tyler, Stefan is able to rip the heart out of Brady’s chest tonight.

Uncle Jerk:
The last time John came to town, his mission was to kill all the vampires. Since he can’t kill the vampires this time, he’s causing troubles in his family. First with Elena and now with Jenna. Uncle Jerk is trying to get in between Alaric and Jenna. What is the point of this exercise, anyway? What does he get out of by making Jenna and Alaric’s relationship tumble? Is it because of Isobel? He gave Isoble his ring to protect her because he loved her. But Isobel turned around and gave that ring to Alaric. I mean, that’s got to hurt a little. I don’t see any other reasons why John would be stirring the pot between Jenna and Alaric.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Elijah has got to be the best heart-ripper in town. His best vamp kill move is the heart-ripper. At least he’s keeping his end of the deal by keeping Elena’s friends safe and he did not fail to remind Damon of it. “This is the third time I saved your life.”
  • Tyler left with Jules. This is heart breaking. I don’t want Tyler to leave. I just want Jules to leave. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see Tyler.
  • Bonnie finally admits her feelings for Jeremy. I wasn’t a fan of this pairing before but it’s kind of endearing to watch these two.
  • Elena knew all along that she was going to be sacrificed. The deal she made with Elijah did not involve her being safe. Elijah only mentioned her friends and family.

It looks like we’ll be seeing more flashback scenes next weeks. Did Stefan really make a meal out of Jonathan Gilbert back in 1864? Is Damon really going to kill Elijah? We’ll find out next week.

I Don’t Know Who To Trust – Recap

by Cathy on February 4, 2011

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Caroline kissed Tyler and Matt, Rose suffered from a werewolf bite and died, Damon tried to help Rose but ended up killing her instead to end her suffering, Jules told Tyler the truth about Mason, and Stefan went out looking for Isobel but came back home with Uncle John.

This week episode, Daddy Issues has all the makings of a great hour of television. You will gasp. You will cry. Most of all, you will fall even more in love with these characters.

Uncle John – the protective father:
This is a new side of Uncle John. Up to this point, John has never played a concerned father role in Elena’s life. All of a sudden, he came back to town and wanted to protect Elena. He’s even willing to make alliance with Stefan and Damon to protect her. This is not the John we are used to. The John Gilbert we know will never be allies with vampires. He would kill himself before he put his trust in vampires. Because of these facts, I’m with Elena and Damon on this one. I do not trust Uncle John. He has a hidden agenda and his intentions are not pure.

Stefan’s Trust in John:
Stefan went looking for Isobel in the previous episode, but he found John instead. Here’s what I don’t understand about Stefan. Wasn’t he the one whothreatened John to leave town and get out of Elena’s life? That was only twelve episodes ago, Mr. Salvatore. Your memory cannot be that bad; especially for someone who keeps a journal. Oh and another thing, he tried to “barbecue” your brother (thanks, Damon!). How could you trust John so easily? I understand that Stefan would do anything to protect Elena. He doesn’t trust Elijah and he thinks Elena is putting herself in more danger by trusting Elijah. I also understand that Stefan is desperate. He’s in desperate need to protect Elena, but Uncle John…? Really? This is Stefan being naive at best.

Jules’ Wolf Pack:
Jules wasn’t lying when she told Tyler that the others like them are on their way to Mystic Falls. Her boyfriend, Brady wanted revenge on the vampires who killed Mason. “We live by a code of loyalty, blah, blah, blah.” Wake up! Mason wasn’t loyal to you. Mason’s loyalty was with Katherine, the vampire. He didn’t even tell them about the Moonstone. Mason came back to Mystic Falls to get that moonstone for Katherine. Mason was in love with Katherine and it is obvious that his loyalty lied with Katherine and his family. What was the point of getting revenge for someone who didn’t care about you? Mason didn’t want to be part of the Pack. Things would have turned out a lot differently if he did. So, this lead me to wonder why the wolf pack is really here. Jules said that she wants Tyler to join them. She said she just wanted to protect him. This can’t be all true. What is the real reason behind Jules’ reasons for wanting Tyler to join them? What are they hiding?

No More Girly Little Caroline:
Caroline… she breaks my heart in this episode. I had to look away from the TV screen when she was locked in the cage and Brady was torturing her. She was a champ in this episode. Caroline had grown up a lot in the past 12 episodes since she transitioned, but this is a new level of maturity for Caroline. She was tortured to a point where she almost died. She was betrayed by her friend. She had to lie to the boy she loves in order to protect him, and all the while trying to keep a brave face. Caroline may be stuck at seventeen forever, but she is growing up  and maturing with each episode.

Doctor Saves the Day:
Dr. Martin, the warlock whose name sounds a lot like a shoe company, saves Damon, Stefan, and Caroline. He gave aneurysm to the wolf pack so they passed out before they were able to kill our beloved vampires. So far, Elijah is keeping his word. He’s making sure that his warlocks are helping him keep Elena’s friends and family stay safe.

Tyler – the dumbest wolf in town:
Oh Tyler… what am I going to do with you? He caused a lot of trouble in this episode. I understand that he’s confused. After all, he’s just a kid and he just found out that his uncle has been murdered by the vampires, who he thought were his friends. Caroline, the girl he trusted, lied to him. He doesn’t know who to trust, but he should have used his head and think. Stefan told him what really happened to Mason and why it happened. Tyler knew how Caroline risked her life to help him during full moon. Why didn’t he help Caroline when she needed him? His little wolf friends were torturing Caroline with wooden bullets and vervain. Tyler let it happened. He even hesitated before opening the cage door for Caroline. What kind of friend does that? Oh and as if this wasn’t enough, he told Jules and Brady about the moonstone. Things are going to get more bloody in Mystic Falls. Great job, Tyler!

Honorable Mentions:

  • Damon said it again that he’s in love with Elena. Of course he didn’t say it to Elena, but he said it again out loud which is a great progress for Damon. I don’t want these two together yet. Damon needs to come to terms with himself that it is ok to be a good guy. He needs to accept that it is ok for him to want to be a good guy because of Elena. They can never be together until he accepts that.
  • Jeremy and Bonnie were being cute and cozy in this episode. It is really good to see Jeremy smiles, but I couldn’t help but think that Bonnie’s only with him because Luka lied to her. Jeremy Gilbert is no second best, Bonnie. He may not be a warlock but he really cares about you.
  • Matt and Caroline needs to get back together already. The look on his face when he realized Caroline was lying to him was heartbreaking. It looks like Tyler is out of the picture for Caroline, so maybe there’s hope for Matt.
  • Jenna finally found out that Uncle John is Elena’s birth father. “How is it possible to keep a secret like that?” Oh Aunt Jenna… there’s so much you don’t know about your family and your town.
  • The slumber party at Carolines’ house! It was a precious moment when Caroline, Elena, and Bonnie were hugging each other. Brownie points for Stefan.
  • What is John’s plan? I knew he had a hidden agenda. What is he planning with Isobel? Why is he going to help Katherine get out of the tomb? I think John needs a reminder that Katherine cut off his fingers and tried to kill him.

Things are getting more and more complicated. Elijah has the moonstone. Jules and Brady are going to be after the moonstone. Tyler is walking on the wrong side of the tracks. John, Katherine, and Isobel have a plan that no one knows about. I just hope that next week isn’t full moon. There are three werewolves in town and they are vengeful.

Predictions and Speculations

by Cathy on January 15, 2011

The last episode of the Vampire Diaries didn’t end with a major cliffhanger like we all thought it would. This is very unlike TVD. We all know that the TVD writers love cliffhangers. Last year, the mid season finale ended with a major cliffhanger. This year, the show ended with a survival of Rose in question. I don’t know about you, but whether or not Rose survives is not such a cliffhanger. First of all, she’s not one of the main characters. Second of all, she’s not a likable character. I don’t care about Rose’s character and I’m sure every other fan in the TVD fandom would agree with me on that. Even though there was no major cliffhangers in the last episode, there are still story lines that are going to develop and take shapes that I cannot wait to see. So, here are my predictions on what’s going to happen next on the show…

  • Jules will find out what really happened to Mason and who was responsible for it.
  • Whoever Jules was talking to on the phone will show up in Mystic Falls.
  • Rose will not survive the werewolf bite.
  • A love triangle will form between Caroline, Tyler, and Matt.
  • Bonnie and Luka will hook up and break up before the season is over.
  • Isobel and Uncle John will return to Mystic Falls.
  • Jenna and Alaric’s relationship will hit some speed bumps. (Jenna said things are really good between she and Alaric. Let’s face it, this is Mystic Falls we’re talking about. Nothing stays good. When things are going well, Doom comes knocking on your door. In this case, Doom named Isobel.)
  • Klaus will show up in Mystic Falls and when he does, Elijah will probably end up dead. (I feel like Elijah has been underestimating Klaus a bit. He told Elena that once Klaus shows up, he will kill him. I think Klaus will kill Elijah first.)
  • Katherine will eventually get out of the tomb.

Let’s hope at least one of my predictions come true. We’ll just have to wait and see.

A Deal with the Devil – Recap

by Cathy on December 10, 2010

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Jeremy tried to be the hero and almost died, Elena went on a suicide mission, Bonnie tried to channel powers with Luka, Elijah surprised all of us by sparing Damon’s life, and Stefan got stuck inside the tomb with Katherine.

This week episode, By the Light of the Moon, is a mid-season finale. This is the episode that we all have been waiting for since September. Tyler Lockwood’s transformation into a werewolf.

Bonnie’s Powers:
What surprises me is that how Bonnie can do “closing” spells without blinking and yet, she’s too weak to do “opening” spells. She couldn’t do one without having a nose bleed. In episode 207, Bonnie did a “closing” spell on a room inside the Lockwood Mansion to stage the “Kill Kat” operation. Later in that episode, she did another “closing” spell on the tomb under the Fell Church to trap Katherine. In this week episode, Bonnie did a “closing” spell on the Gilbert house for Elena so she couldn’t leave. I guess it is harder to remove or lift the spell than to cast one. Which leads me to wonder how Bonnie is going to lift the spell she casted on the Gilbert house. Is Elena going to be trapped inside her house for the rest of this season? That would make an interesting storyline. Elena would be safe inside the house where no evil vampires can get to her. How boring! Bonnie, you better study up on your spells. Wait, I got one for you… “Alohomora!”

She Wolf (and I don’t mean Shakira):
Apparently, Mason had a wolf friend. Jules. She looked like bad news to me. I had a bad feeling as soon as she came on screen. What was she doing at Mason’s place in Florida, anyway? Were they roommates? How did Katherine feel about her “boyfriend’s” wolf friend? If Jules and Mason were roommates, Katherine had to have known about her. And what does she want with Tyler? Does Jules just genuinely want to help Tyler go through his first transformation? Since Jules and Mason were friends, she probably just wants to be there for her friend’s nephew. She has first hand experience and she can help Tyler. I doubt it, though. Just from looking at her body language, her intentions are not sincere. And, who was that person she called after she left the Lockwood Mansion? Who is Jules working for? What other danger is coming to Mystic Falls? It’s not like this town doesn’t have enough problems already.

The Dream Team:
Damon and Alaric are teaming up again. I love seeing these two working together and getting along. It’s funny because Alaric came to town to kill Damon, and now he’s helping Damon. Alaric and Damon tried to find out whether or not Jules was a werewolf. Damon’s smart now; he’s carrying wolfsbane in his pocket. It’s a good thing, too because that wolfsbane was going to help them figure out if Jules was a werewolf or not. They spiked Jules’ drink with wolfsbane and tried to get her to drink it, but she was too smart. Jules said she sniffed out Damon and the wolfsbane as soon as she walked into the Grill. The Dream Team kind of got shot down tonight. Damon and Alaric, you guys got to be better than that. Now, Jules is vengeful and threatened Damon. “You’ve been marked.” I’d be worried, if I were Damon. His brother is trapped inside the tomb. Elena is trapped inside her house. Who’s going to save him?

Luka’s Helping Hand:
Bonnie asked Luka to help her break the bind from the moonstone. Luka seems like a nice person and he really does want to help Bonnie. Together, they “destroyed” the moonstone, or so Bonnie thought. Luka pretended to destroy the moonstone in front of Bonnie. He then gave it to his dad, who is going to turn around and give it to Elijah. Luka didn’t seem like he was happy about what he did. He did it because his dad told him to, not because he wanted to.

A Deal with the Devil:
Elijah pretended to be a historian, who came to town to do research on Mystic Falls. He got Jenna to invite him into the Gilbert house. Really, what’s the point of trapping Elena inside the house when it is that easy for a vampire to get inside the house. Elena Gilbert, the danger magnet. Even when she’s trapped inside her house, danger come knocking on her door. In this case, danger got passed the door and inside her house.

It turns out that Elijah really didn’t want to hurt Elena. He doesn’t want the curse of the sun and the moon to be broken. He doesn’t want anyone to break it. He wants to make a deal with Elena. He wants Elena to stay safe, so no other vampires can lead her to Klaus. When the time is right, Elijah is going to use Elena to draw out Klaus. And when Klaus shows up, Elijah is planning on killing Klaus. Elena and her friends will not be harmed. Elijah promised Elena that from the help of Luka, Jonas, and Bonnie; he’s going to help protect everyone that Elena cares about. Elena made a deal, but not before asking him for something else she wanted.

Tyler’s Transformation:
Let me just say how glad I am for Tyler that Caroline was there. It was excruciating to watch Tyler go through the transformation. The acting was spectacular in this scene. I felt Tyler’s pain. I felt Caroline’s sympathy. Most of all, I felt sympathy for Tyler. When they say, it’s a curse; it really is a curse. It’s not something that you want to happen to you. I am so proud of Caroline for being incredibly brave and kind. After this experience, Tyler and Caroline are bonded for life. I’m sure of it.

A Werewolf Bite:
It’s going to make me sound horrible, but I’m so glad it was Rose and not Damon who got bitten by Jules. Man, Jules wasn’t kidding when she threatened Damon. I thought this was the end for Rose, but the wound was healed. Until later, Rose’s skin turned into a gruesome rash. Is this a slow process? Maybe Rose is going to die after all.

Soulmates Reunite:
Stefan’s back! I know I’ve said this before about Elena and Stefan and how they keep breaking up and getting back together. But, I’m really glad they got back together. Team Stefan and Elena! Anyone else with me? I guess I’m alone in this, but how can you not root for these two? When Stefan was stuck inside the tomb with Katherine, all he cared about was Elena’s safety. He didn’t care about his survival. And all Elena wanted was to get Stefan out of the tomb.

Katherine’s still stuck inside the tomb. Things are not going to get any easier for Tyler. There is a new wolf in town and she’s vengeful. The curse of the sun and the moon is still bind to the moonstone. There is a dark cloud named, Klaus is looming over Mystic Falls. Isobel’s return is in the near future. Rose’s survival is not looking too good.

It is going to be a long 6 week break, but I’m sure the show will return in January with an epic episode. Happy Holidays, everyone!
