2.20 – The Last Day

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Klaus Elijah came back to life, Elena formed a new alliance with Elijah, we learned that Elijah and Klaus are brothers, the sun and the moon curse doesn’t exist, Klaus is a half vampire half werewolf, and the real curse he’s trying to break is the curse that was put on him.

This week episode, The Last Day, is about the events that leading up to the sacrifice ritual that Klaus has been waiting for a thousand year.

Elijah’s plan:
In the last episode, we learned from Elijah that he had found a way to save the doppleganger after the sacrifice. He had wanted to save Katherine 500 years ago, but Katherine fled and turned herself into a vampire before the sacrifice could happen. Elijah’s plan is to use a potion that has mystical powers of resuscitation on Elena. During Full Moon, the witch will channel the power of the moon to break the curse that binds in the moonstone. Klaus will then sacrifice a vampire and a werewolf. As a final part of the sacrifice, Klaus will drink the blood of the doppleganger until the point of her death. But, if Elena had drank the potion from Elijah, she can come back to life.

Of course, there are risks to that. Elijah doesn’t know for sure that the potion would work. There is a chance that Elena can really die.

The Gilbert Ring:
The Gilbert ring protects human from being killed by a supernatural being. Damon suggests that Elena wear the Gilbert ring before the sacrifice, so she can really come back to life. We know the Gilbert ring works. It’s fool proof. But, Elijah points out that dopplegangers are a supernatural occurrence, so it’s very possible that the ring won’t work on Elena. This concept is interesting to me. Elena is human. She’s one hundred percent human, but because she’s a doppleganger; it also makes her a supernatural being. It’s kind of like a hybrid in a way. Half human, half supernatural being. Is this the reason why a doppleganger is involved in the sacrifice to break the curse on Klaus?

Tyler’s Return:
Klaus’s Man Witch makes Mrs. Lockwood calls Tyler and tell him to come home. She tells him that she was in a hospital. Man Witch attacks Mrs. Lockwood and she really ends up in the hospital. Tyler does come home to see his mother and falls right in the trap Klaus set up for him.

Damon’s Screw-Up:
There is a sweet moment between Damon and Elena when he tells her that he can’t lose her. The moment was short lived when Damon acts on his impulse and fed his blood to Elena. This is an impulsive decision on Damon’s part and he’s being completely selfish, but I know that he truly believes this was the only way to keep her alive. He loves Elena so much that he would do anything to keep her, even if it means that she’d be a vampire.

Damon then realizes that he screwed up, so he tries to fix it. He asks Klaus if he’s willing to postpone the ritual until the next full moon. Klaus refuses and warns Damon not to screw it up for him. Of course, Damon being Damon plans to take Klaus’ werewolf out of the equation, so the ritual couldn’t happen tonight. Again, Damon’s risking his life to protect the love of his life.

A Vampire and A Werewolf:
Klaus’ vampire and werewolf he’s planning to use are Caroline and Tyler. Man Witch attacks Caroline and Tyler outside the hospital and brings them to the tomb. While they are both in the tomb, Caroline and Tyler get a chance to catch up and forgive each other.

The Talk:
Normal teenage couples have “the talk” about sex. Stefan and Elena on the other hand, have “the talk” about becoming a vampire. Stefan takes Elena on a hiking trip and it gives Elena a chance to ask questions to Stefan about the good and bad things about becoming a vampire. Once they get to the top of a mountain, Elena finally admits to Stefan that she doesn’t want to become a vampire. She wants to grow old, have a life, and have choices. I’m glad to hear Elena says these things. This is how the normal seventeen year old girl should feel.

Matt, The Hero:
Matt saves Damon’s life in this episode. If it wasn’t for him, Man Witch could have killed Damon when Damon tries to save Caroline and Damon. It looks like Matt isn’t working with Sheriff Forbes anymore. He’s started to see that even though Caroline is a vampire, she’s still Caroline. I think Matt is definitely coming around to the idea of dating a vampire. I really hope so because they are so cute together.

OMG Moments:

  • Damon gets bitten by Tyler. This is what I was afraid of since Rose got bitten by Jules. I was afraid Damon would be next. But, Tyler wasn’t fully transformed yet when he bit Damon so is it really fatal? Maybe Bonnie can do a spell to cure Damon.
  • Klaus makes Katherine calls Jenna to lure her out and he turns Jenna into a vampire. Why Jenna? Is it because Alaric invited Damon into the house? Is it Klaus’ revenge on Alaric?

This is a bad cliffhanger. I cannot wait until next Thursday. Jenna’s fate is hanging by the threat; along with Elena’s, Damon’s, and Tyler’s.
