2.19 – Klaus
Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Klaus possessed Alaric’s body and caused a scene at the Decade Dance, Bonnie died and then came back to life, Stefan and Damon gave their house to Elena so she could be in a safe place, Matt is working with Sheriff Forbes to find out the truth from Caroline, and Elena resurrected Elijah by pulling out the dagger from his body.
This week episode, Klaus, is all about well… Klaus. After ten plus episodes, we finally get to meet Klaus and how he first met Katherine back in 1492.
Resurrection of Elijah:
In the previous episode, we saw Elena pulled the dagger out of Elijah’s dead body to bring him back to life. Damon was going to risk Bonnie’s life to save Elena’s and she wasn’t going to let Bonnie die. Elena has a record of doing some stupid things to save the people she cares about. This is probably one of them.
When Elijah comes back to life, he was having trouble breathing and couldn’t be in the Salvatore House because it belongs to Elena now and he needed to be invited in. Here’s my question – Elijah was moving around a lot in the basement and he ran out of the house pretty fast. Didn’t Stefan and Damon hear him? What happened to their super sensitive senses?
Elena gave the dagger to Elijah to show him that he can trust her. In return, Elijah agreed to tell Elena the rest of the story about Klaus.
The Original Brothers:
So, Elijah and Klaus are brothers. Is it just me or does this seems familiar to you? Human Katherine (Petrova Doppleganger) played around with the original brothers in 1492. Vampire Katherine fooled around with the Salvatore brothers in 1864. Elena (Petrova Doppleganger) made the Salvatore brothers fall in love with her in 2011.
What is it with the Petrova Dopplegangers and the brothers? It’s like history repeating itself over and over again. Also, when Klaus kisses Katherine’s hand and tells her, “Please, call me Klaus,” it made me think of the time when Katherine first met Stefan. She offered her hand to Stefan and told him, “Please, call me Katherine.” Coincidence?
Elijah said Klaus doesn’t care about anyone else but his own needs. When Katherine became a vampire, she took on his characteristics. She only looks after her own needs and doesn’t care about other people’s. She became exactly like her worst enemy. And when Damon became a vampire, he took on Katherine’s characteristics. Again, history repeating itself.
Jenna Finally Sees the Truth:
Finally! Aunt Jenna needed to find out the truth for about 20 episodes ago. Maybe now, she would stop inviting strangers into her home. I was scared for Jenna’s life for a second there because Alaric (possessed by Klaus) looked like he was going to kill her.
The Real Curse:
It turns out that the sun and the moon curse doesn’t exist. Klaus and Elijah made it up in a way to make it easy for them to find the Doppleganger. Klaus is not trying to break the sun and the moon curse because it doesn’t exist. Klaus is trying to break the curse that was put on him.
Klaus:
Klaus and Elijah may be brothers but they do not share the same father. Klaus is from a different blood line. Klaus’ father is a werewolf, so it makes him a half werewolf, half vampire. A hybrid. A hybrid of werewolf and vampire would be the most powerful supernatural kind, so the witches put a curse on Klaus. His werewolf part will not dominate as long as the curse is not broken.
Klaus wants to break this curse. Elijah is afraid that once Klaus breaks the curse, he would create his own species that would endangered humans, vampires, and werewolves.
Confused yet? Me too! I watched this episode twice and there are still some gray areas that need clarification. At least now we know the real curse that Klaus is trying to break. Things start to make more sense to me now. I’ve always wondered why Klaus wanted to break the sun and the moon curse when he and the originals can walk in the sun.
Elijah told Elena in this episode that there is a way to save the life of the Doppleganger in the sacrifice. Elena and Stefan believe him but Damon doesn’t.
Katherine is drinking vervain that Damon gave her. Klaus can no longer compel her. Will she find a way to get away from Klaus? What are Elijah, Elena, and Stefan going to do next? How is Damon going to cope with all of this? Will he team up with Katherine? Alaric’s back, but will Jenna ever going to forgive him?
These questions will hopefully be answered in the next episode, but for now, I am going to watch this episode again to fully understand what is going on.
