2.15 – The Dinner Party
Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Stefan and Elena’s romantic getaway turned deadly, when Tyler and Brady came to attack, Bonnie did a spell on Luka to reveal the truth behind Elijah’s deal with Elena, Damon got tortured by Jules and the wolf pack, and Tyler left Mystic Falls.
This week episode, The Dinner Party, reveals things about Stefan’s past in 1864.
Stefan killing Jonathan Gilbert:
Elena read in Jonathan Gilbert’s journal that Stefan was the one who killed him. I guess Jonathan was wearing the Gilbert ring when Stefan “killed” him otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to live to write about it.
Stefan circa 1864:
“It’s like you were Damon.” Elena told Stefan. It was nice to see the role reversal between the brothers. Stefan was Damon. All he cared about was blood and he didn’t care that he was hurting people. He shut off his humanity and chose not to feel.
Lexie’s back:
I’ve always liked Lexie. I didn’t like that Damon killed her in season one and it’s nice to see her back. Lexie was a good person from the beginning. She was the reason Stefan became the person he is today. Lexie showed Stefan how to change for the better.
Alaric, the rockstar:
Alaric kicked ass in this episode. When he found out that Damon couldn’t use the dagger to kill Elijah, he stepped up and kill Elijah. Alaric may act like he doesn’t like Damon at times, but he really does have his buddy’s back.
Jenna and Alaric:
There you go, Jenna. Now, you’re starting to ask questions. The questions you should have been asking about 20 episodes ago. I don’t like to see their relationship crumble but if Alaric doesn’t tell her the truth soon, there will be no relationship to crumble. But even if Alaric tells Jenna everything, how could she ever forgive him? He’s been lying to her the entire time. She can never trust him again.
John Gilbert’s plan:
I knew I couldn’t trust John. He never liked Damon and it was very unlike him to be helping Damon kill Elijah. His plan was to kill two birds with one stone. He knew that Damon was going to kill Elijah and he knew that the dagger is harmful to all demon. The demon who uses the dagger to kill the original will also die. John wanted to kill Damon. It was stupid of Stefan to trust him.
That was only the first part of John’s plan though. His other plan was to get his ring back from Alaric. So, he forced a wedge between Jenna and Alaric which caused Alaric to give him the ring at the end. Does anyone here like John Gilbert? He’s as bad as Katherine.
The doppleganger sacrifice:
The trick about killing the original vampire is not to remove the dagger. Alaric made that mistake tonight at the Salvatore house and Elijah escaped. He went straight to Dr. Martin and asked him to find Elena. When Elijah showed up at the lakehouse, Elena was ready to surrender and also to make another deal. She told Elijah that if he is not willing to renegotiate a deal with her, she was going to stab herself to death. Even if Stefan gives her his blood to save her, she would kill herself to be turned into a vampire just like Katherine did. Elijah thought she was bluffing and didn’t believe her. That was until Elena stabbed herself in the stomach. Elijah panicked and made a promise to Elena. Elijah’s guard was down and he was focused on healing Elena that he did not see the dagger that Elena pushed through his heart. It turned out that Damon got to the lakehouse before Elijah did.
Honorable Mentions:
- Bonnie’s powers got taken away by Dr. Martin. This is another guy I do not like. Poor Bonnie… how will she ever get her powers back?
- Katherine is out of the tomb. Because Elijah died, the compulsion he did on Katherine wore off. Things are going to get more interesting now that she’s back. Stay away from Stefan, Kat.
So Elijah’s dead now. What’s going to happen to Luka and Dr. Martin? Will Dr. Martin give Bonnie her powers back? How are they going to find Klaus? Is Isobel going to be showing up in Mystic Falls soon? When are we going to see Tyler again? What will Katherine do next?
