2.05 – Kill Or Be Killed
Friends Don’t Kill Friends
Previously on the Vampire Diaries: Katherine told Stefan about the werewolves/Lockwoods, Damon failed to kill Mason, Elena and Stefan found a way to manipulate Katherine, Tyler learned that a werewolf curse needs to be triggered by murder.
How Mason Triggered the Curse (part one):
It looks like there’s only been a year since Mason was turned into a werewolf. I knew he had to have done it by accident. We all know that Mason wants nothing to do with the council. It must be because he knew that if he was involved with the council, it would make it so much easier for him to turn. He knew that vampires existed. He had to. He’s a Lockwood. His father would have told him about it. So, to keep himself from turning into a werewolf, he left town to have an easy life in Florida. Of course, he got mad and accidentally killed his friend.
I’m glad Mason finally told Tyler how he triggered the curse, but why is he still being so secretive about that freaking moonstone!? What is so important about that moonstone? I have my own theory about that moonstone, but I want to know what it really does. Good for Tyler for not just handing it to Mason.
Jeremy Returns:
Jeremy’s back and he’s on a mission! Despite Elena’s request to not get involved with Tyler’s werewolf family history, Jeremy took it upon himself to find out the truth. He and Tyler bonded at the Grill and Tyler invited Jeremy to his house to party with the girls. Jeremy used his sketches of the wolves to get Tyler to admit the truth about his family and it worked! Tyler spilled the beans… told Jeremy everything about the “Lockwood Curse”.
I like that Tyler and Jeremy are bonding and becoming friends. Jeremy needs more guy friends in his life. Ever since the series started, we’ve never seen Jeremy hang out with another guy. The closest thing to that is when he played video games with Damon in the episode 113. It has been nothing but girl drama for Jeremy. First Vicki, then Anna. I want to see Jeremy to be more of a happy-go-lucky kid. This kid needs more sunshine in his life.
Damon & Stefan’s Near Death Experience:
I really don’t like Mason in this episode. When the show first introduced his character, he was charming and non-threatening. Now, Mason is a dick! Stefan apologized to him and offered peace. So, what did Mason do? He ran to Sheriff Forbes and told her that Damon and Stefan are vampires…. Strike one.
Then, he spiked the lemonade with vervain to expose Damon…. Strike two.
If it wasn’t for Caroline, I’m sure the Salvatore brothers were not going to survive the attack from the deputies. Caroline’s my hero in this episode. She should have killed Mason when she had a chance.
How Mason Triggered the Curse (part two):
Of course, Katherine is involved! I can’t believe I didn’t see this before. I have to admit it was such a surprise for me, but now that I think about it, I should have seen this coming. Why Mason turned only a year ago? Why Mason desperately wanted that moonstone? It’s all connected. Because of Katherine.
If it wasn’t for Katherine, Mason would still be human. She was there the night Mason triggered the curse. Mason said Jimmy thought he had an affair with Jimmy’s girlfriend. Katherine asked Mason, “why would he think that?”. Well, Katherine, maybe because you compelled Jimmy to think that Mason was fooling around with his girlfriend. Which caused Jimmy to pick a fight with Mason. Mason got mad and accidentally killed Jimmy. Katherine smiled. She wanted Mason to turn. I can’t figure out why though. How do they know each other anyway?
Mason was working with Katherine…. Strike three.
Katherine was the one who wanted the moonstone. She wanted Mason to get it for her. Typical Katherine. Always making other people do her dirty work. But why does she want that moonstone back? Is this what she’s after all along? Is this the reason she came back to Mystic Falls? To get that moonstone back? This can’t be it though. She doesn’t need to be in town for that moonstone. She can ask Mason to get it for her, which he did. What is the real reason? Is it really Stefan? My theory is that Katherine has a hidden agenda that no one knows about. And I’m afraid of what’s going to happen when she finally reveals it.
Now for the heartfelt moments:
- Damon and Elena’s Friendship… looking hopeful: Damon has redeemed himself a little in Elena’s book by not killing Sheriff Forbes. What’s so great about it is that I don’t think he did it for Elena. Damon genuinely likes Sheriff Forbes. He considers Liz as one of his friends. And we all know that Damon does not have friends. I was proud of him. Elena said two of my favorite lines in this episode. First one: “What you did for Caroline’s mom… that’s the Damon who was my friend.”
- Elena & Stefan… insanely in love: Nothing is going to break these two apart. Not the hot-sexy-emotionally unstable-vampire brother. Not even a psycho-dangerous-vampire ex girlfriend. Elena and Stefan… their hearts are one. Now, they are going to be even more closer than they already are. By giving Stefan her blood to keep him stronger, Elena is binding herself to Stefan in the most intense and romantic way possible. Second favorite line: “It’s you and me, Stefan. Always.”
Matt and Bonnie are still missing in action. It looks like Bonnie will be back in the next episode. Until next time.
