2.04 – Memory Lane
Memories Never Fade
Previously on the Vampire Diaries: Mason shifted into a werewolf, we learned about the legends of werewolf, Elena hurt Damon (emotionally), Caroline hurt Matt (physically), Matt broke up with Caroline, Stefan and Caroline almost got killed by a werewolf, and Katherine returned… again.
This week episode, Memory Lane, is all about the flashbacks. We learned more about what really happened at the first Founders’ Ball. Last season, we learned about what happened at the first Founders Ball from Stefan and Damon’s point of view. Tonight, we got to see things from Katherine’s point of view.
The Survival of the Fittest:
A new character was introduced tonight. George Lockwood. How did Katherine know that he was a werewolf? This woman always seems to know a lot. What’s her secret; or better yet, how long has she been a vampire? Katherine is smart. She’s always looking out for herself. She would try to find a way to keep herself safe, even if it means hurting the people around her. She simply doesn’t care. In order to keep herself safe, she made a deal with George Lockwood at the Ball. Katherine and George planned to kill all the vampires in town. She faked her own death in order to escape with the help of George. In exchange, Katherine gave the moonstone to George. THE moonstone that Mason’s been looking for at the Lockwood Mansion. THE moonstone that Tyler has. The meaning of the moonstone hasn’t been revealed. My theory is that the moonstone helps a human to shift into a werewolf. I think that is the reason why Mason wanted it. He wanted to take it away, so that Tyler wouldn’t shift. But, here’s a kicker: how is it that Katherine had that moonstone?
Stefan & Katherine – A Love Story:
Is it wrong that I felt sympathy for Katherine in tonight episode? I guess, she really wasn’t lying about why she came back to Mystic Falls. However, there are some holes in her reason. If she really loves Stefan, why did she wait over 100 years to come find him? Katherine knew that Stefan was still “alive”. Why wait 150 years? Why now? Why come back for Stefan when she knew that he had fallen in love with someone else? She had to have some other reasons why she came back in town. Let’s forget about the present for now, what about 1864? If she really had fallen in love with Stefan, why did she fool around with Damon? Never mind, don’t answer that. We all know the reason. It’s because Katherine is a selfish, manipulative bitch. I still feel bad for her in this episode. Especially, when she was talking to Stefan’s dead body in the flashback scene. Whoa! Look what I just wrote. What am I, Damon? I cannot have a soft spot for Katherine. I will not. She’s trying to break up Stefan and Elena. I should be hating her guts right now.
BBQ at Jenna’s:
I love seeing Damon act human. Like in the episode 111, where he and Elena were eating burgers and fries at the bar. Also in the episode 113, where he was playing video games with Jeremy. In tonight episode, he was playing Pictionary with Jenna, Alaric, and Mason. It was comical watching this dangerous vampire act like a normal human. I also know that Damon did all of this to get Mason to confess what he really is. Instead of killing Mason, Damon made another enemy. What’s new, right? He really needs to be careful. There is a witch who can drop him with a simple look and now there is a werewolf who can kill him with a single bite.
The Fight that (almost) Broke My Heart:
Stefan and Elena pretended to be fighting at the Grill. Caroline was there and they knew she was listening, so she can report everything to Katherine. They made Caroline and Damon see that they were fighting about Katherine. Katherine had succeed. She had come between them to try to break them apart. When I was watching it, I totally bought their little act. Until, Elena was back home and Stefan was there. I like their tactic. You have to manipulate and manipulative. Katherine is smart. If you want to beat her, you have to be 10 times smarter than her.
Now for those who were MIA:
- Jeremy: This kid has been missing in action for the past two episodes. Where is he? Is he brooding in his bedroom, chatting on the vampire forums? Or maybe, he and Alaric are forming a secret society of magic ring owners. Whatever it is, Jeremy needs to come back on screen soon.
- Matt: So, you broke up with your insecure vampire girlfriend and then you disappeared? Donavan(s) have a habit of leaving Mystic Falls. I don’t want Matt to leave. Matt, you need to come back and hang out with your soon-to-be werewolf best friend, Tyler.
- Bonnie: I’m not her biggest fan this season, but she did give Caroline a day walking ring. Bonnie warmed up to me a little bit last episode, but she still has to do a lot of good deeds to redeem herself in my book. Hey Bonnie, how about you don’t try to kill Damon anymore. One step at a time.
I can’t wait for the next week episode. Is Sheriff Forbes finally going to find out the truth about her daughter? What else does Katherine have up her sleeves? When is Elena going to forgive Damon? Is it Thursday, yet?
