2.03 – Bad Moon Rising

Have I Lost You Forever?

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Caroline became a vampire, Bonnie almost killed Damon, Uncle Mason acted “inhuman”, and Matt confessed his love to Caroline.

This week episode, Bad Moon Rising, is all about the Lockwoods. The show finally reveals the Lockwood family secret. The werewolves. Also, tonight is full moon. Coincidence?

The Wolf’s Out of the Bag:
First of all, I gotta give it up to the Lockwood family for being so great at keeping secrets. How come no one knows about the cave in the woods with iron gates? It makes me wonder if Mayor Lockwood came to this cave once every full moon when he turned into a werewolf. What about Mrs. Lockwood? She has no idea why her husband was affected by the Gilbert device. It makes me wonder if she even knew that her husband was a werewolf. If that’s true, did she not wonder why her husband would disappear once a month at night? She must be really clueless, if she never noticed these patterns.

I was on the edge of my seat during the scene where Mason turned into a werewolf. Mostly because I was feared for Stefan’s life. Then, a wolf version of Mason jumped out of the car and almost attacked Stefan. I wonder if Mason could tell that Stefan is a vampire.

I really thought that Mason was going to bite Caroline. I’m glad Tyler stopped him. It would have been the end for Caroline, otherwise. “A werewolf bite can kill a vampire.” That is not good news for Caroline and the Salvatore brothers. We don’t know how long Mason will be staying in town, but he now knows about vampires. Sheriff Forbes told Damon in episode 201, that Mason is a non-believer. Well, Mason is a believer now. He was face to face with a vampire tonight. This tells me that Mason will be sticking around in Mystic Falls for awhile. He would want to protect his family, now that his older brother is gone. Start claiming your teams, people. Are you Team Lockwood or Team Salvatore?

Road Trip to the Past:
Damon, Elena, and Alaric take a trip to Duke University in search for answers about the Lockwood family. This may look like an unlikely trio, but if you are a fan of this show like myself, you would know that this isn’t the first time these three work together. It takes me back to episode 117, where they were working together on operation rescue Stefan.  This time though, they took a trip to Duke to search through Isobel’s research on Mystic Falls.

They learned about the werewolves, thanks to Vanessa, the grad student. I don’t know about you, but this girl annoys me. I wish Damon would have killed her in this episode. She knows too much. “She’s practically a liability” (Damon’s words).

I’m curious to see what Elena will find out from the book that Damon gave her. Katherine’s real last name is not Pierce. Why did she change it? How did she become a vampire? Stefan said that when you become a vampire, all of your human characteristics amplify. Why is Katherine the way she is? Why does Elena look exactly like Katherine? I really hope that they answer all these questions in this season.

Now for the heartbreaking moments:

  • Matt & Caroline: Caroline, how could you do this to Matt? I really thought she was going to kill Matt. We are short of human on this show as it is. We don’t need Matt to die. I was glad Stefan got there on time. Caroline then, realized she shouldn’t be with Matt, so she pretended to be a jealous girlfriend. Her plan worked. Matt broke up with her. Poor Matt. Now he has no one. I hope they can work it out like Stefan and Elena.
  • Damon & Elena: This breaks my heart. On one hand, I understand where Elena is coming from. On the other hand, I feel really bad for Damon. Elena can hurt Damon much worst than Katherine ever could, and I’m not sure if Elena knows that. Yes, Damon is hurt by Katherine but he also knows that Katherine’s a selfish, manipulative bitch. Katherine never cared about him. Elena on the other hand, hated Damon at first but she grew to care about him. She even saved his life three times, after all the bad things that he has done. Elena cared about him, despite of all the terrible things that he has done. Damon can’t lose that. It will destroy him, if he lost his friendship with Elena.

Katherine is back again. Now, she wants to team up with Caroline. What kind of trouble is she planning on getting into? Maybe Katherine can take a trip down memory lane and tell us her family history. I guess we’ll find out in seven days.
