An Unwanted House Guest – Recap

by Cathy on February 25, 2011

Previously on the Vampire Diaries, we got to see Lexie again, Damon threw a dinner party to stage operation murder Elijah, Jenna and Alaric’s relationship is on the rocks, Uncle John got his ring back, Bonnie got her powers taken away, Elena killed Elijah, and Katherine got out of the tomb.

This week episode, The House Guest, is thrilling and keeps you on the edge of your seat with plot twists and turns.

Games Katherine Play:
Katherine must have been really bored being cooped up in that tomb. Now that she’s out, she’s back to playing her games trying to impersonate Elena. I have to admit, I didn’t know who was who during the opening scene. And… she’s toying around with Damon’s feelings again. I’m glad he didn’t fall for it though. I always feel skeptical about Damon when it comes to Katherine, but he’s been proving that he’s over Katherine for about ten episodes now. Stay strong, Damon.

Fireproof Elijah:
Seriously, this guy is indestructible. I was wondering why Damon and Stefan didn’t burn him in the previous episode, but now I see that Elijah can’t be burned. Damon tried to torch him with a fire hose but his dead body stay in tact. How is that possible? What is so special about the Originals? What are they really made out of? Until Elijah’s body turned to ash, I refuse to believe that he’s dead. Elijah is definitely not out of the picture yet.

Witches’ Massacre:
Elijah wants to find the place where the witches were massacred a few centuries ago. We didn’t know why he wanted to find it until tonight. Katherine explains that when a witch dies violently, they release the mystical energy, marking the place of their death. So the place where the witches were massacred would have an enormous amount of mystical energy. Elijah didn’t have any weapon to kill Klaus. He was planning on using the site of the witches’ massacre for the Martins to channel enough power from the mystical energy to kill Klaus.

Papa Witch and Baby Witch:
I really don’t like these two. They were bad news from the beginning. I had a bad feeling about them when they showed up to town in the episode 209. They made Stefan and Bonnie believed that they are willing to work together, but Dr. Witch had other plans. He’s going to bring Elijah back. He did a spell that send Luka’s soul to find Elijah. Since Elijah’s body is at the Salvatore house, Luka’s soul walks inside the house to find Elijah. He tries to pull the dagger out of Elijah’s body, but Katherine was there to stop it from happening. Dr. Martin, being the stupid witch, told Luka to kill Katherine with a steak. Seriously, how stupid can you get? Katherine’s not at the house alone. Damon is there. Damon’s not a big fan of Katherine but he’s not going to let Elijah come back to life. Luka staked Katherine in the chest but missed her heart. Damon came down to the basement just in time to use the fire hose on Luka. Papa Witch brought his son back to their house, but it was too late. Flames engulfed Luka and he was burned to death. Dr. Martin said that Stefan and Damon are their enemies and that “they need to be dealt with”. Well, look who dealt with whom? Don’t mess with the Salvatores, Dr. Martin. You’ll end up dead.

After Luka’s untimely death, Dr. Martin put his anger into motion. He did a spell to find Elena. He threatened Stefan and went out on a mission to find Elena. He found Elena at the Grill and caused a commotion to take her with him, but Stefan had other plans. Stefan got Elena back home safely, but Dr. Martin was waiting for her at the Gilbert house. He tried to attack Elena, only it wasn’t Elena. It was Katherine, who switched clothes with Elena at the Grill. Katherine bit Dr. Martin and sucked the blood out of him. C’est la vie, Dr. Martin.

Matt and Caroline – Eternal Flame:
Caroline expressed her feelings for Matt by singing a song to him in front of everyone at the Grill.  That was pretty much the cutest moment in their relationship. Matt just walked up onto the stage and kissed Caroline in the middle of the song. But all good things must come to an end. Dr. Martin caused a commotion at the Grill and stabbed Matt in the neck with a broken beer bottle. Caroline had to feed her blood to heal him. After that she told him the truth about who she is, but just like any normal human, Matt didn’t take it well. He freaked out and started accusing Caroline of hurting Vicki. This could be the deal breaker for Matt.

John Gilbert’s Plan:
The truth finally comes out about John and Isobel’s plan and why he wanted to help Katherine get out of the tomb. They want Stefan and Damon out of Elena’s life. He offered Katherine a deal. He’d help her get out of the tomb but she would have to stay and help kill Klaus. Or he would kill Stefan. Another part of the deal is that Katherine can only keep one of the brothers safe. Katherine chose Stefan. Ouch! Twist that knife in a little more deeper, Katherine. Poor Damon… A little tip to the writers… the more you hurt Damon, the more appealing and likable he becomes. Better watch out, Stefan. Damon’s slowly making his way up into that soft spot in my heart.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Bonnie got her powers back. Papa Witch gave her powers back right before he died. And apparently he wants Bonnie to kill Klaus and told her how to do it.
  • Alaric and Jenna are pretty much over. This is a one relationship that I don’t want to see ruined, but honestly I don’t think they can ever repair it. Too many lies have been told.
  • Isobel’s back. Like I said in my predictions last year, Doom aka Isobel came knocking the Gilbert’s door. Let the games begin.

We’ll have to wait a month to find out what happens next and like always, there are too many cliffhangers. What’s going to happen to Matt and Caroline? Isobel is in town and what is her next move? Did she succeed in trying to keep Klaus away from Mystic Falls? I’m excited to see her team up with Katherine. No TVD for the next month. What will I do with my Thursday nights?

You’re Home – Recap

by Cathy on January 28, 2011

Previously on the Vampire Diaries: a new werewolf named Jules showed up in town looking for Mason, Bonnie had another “magical” experience with Luka, Caroline helped Tyler through his first full moon transformation, Elena made a deal with Elijah, Stefan got out of the tomb, and Rose got bitten by Jules.

Tonight episode, “The Descent” is about Rose’s struggle and the painful rampage that she has to go through from suffering from a werewolf bite.

Elena and Stefan – reunited and it feels so good:
So, Elena thinks that now that she made the deal with Elijah she can go back and live her normal life. It starts with Stefan, of course. Nothing’s more normal for a 17 year old girl than getting back together with her vampire boyfriend. Really, Elena needs to wake up. When is she going to realize that her life is never going to be normal. Her mother is a vampire. Her boyfriend is a vampire. One of her best friend is a witch and the other one is a vampire. Her brother wears a magic ring that protects him from being killed by a supernatural force. She has a doppleganger that wants her dead. But, all sarcastic comments aside, I’m really happy that Elena and Stefan are back together. Sorry, Damon/Elena fans.

Jules – the big bad wolf:
Damn, she went all out on full moon, didn’t she? How many of those campers did she make a meal out of? I knew she was bad news the minute she showed up to town, but this is worst than I could have imagined. She was going to pull Damon by burning the bodies in the woods, only this is more gruesome since the bodies were in pieces. At least vampires just suck the blood out of people. Werewolves shred people into pieces! So inhumane.

Matt, Caroline, and Tyler – a love triangle:
Triangles hurt people, kids. They have sharp edges. Have we learned nothing from Stefan, Katherine, and Damon? Someone always ends up getting hurt and from the looks of it, I think it’s going to be Matt. Poor, innocent, oblivious Matt. How is he ever going to win a fight with a werewolf?

Rose – I hope you had the time of your life:
This is expected. We all knew this was going to happen a couple of episodes back. Rose’s character has served her purpose. She showed up to Mystic Falls to tell Team Salvatore about the Originals and how they are after Elena. There’s no reason for her to stick around anymore. There is nothing interesting about her character. I know there are a lot of talks going around about the reason why Rose got bitten in the last episode and not Damon. They want the audience to see what a vampire would have to go through if they got bit by a werewolf and how Damon would be the one who gets bitten before this season is over. I really, reallyreally hope it’s not true.

Damon – drunk and upset:
This is a big Damon episode. Our boy was very busy. He took care of a sick friend, hung out with a werewolf at the grill to find a cure for his sick friend, murdered his sick friend because he found out the only way to cure her was to kill her, went out and killed an innocent human because he was upset and drunk, and oh yeah, he also teamed up with Sheriff Forbes to solve the town’s vampire problem (another one).

Damon really did learn everything he knows from Katherine. They are so alike. Damon suffered from a lost tonight. He cared about Rose and he felt guilty that she had to die because of him. After all, Jules was coming after him, not Rose. Rose’s death hurts him. And Damon doesn’t like that. He doesn’t want to feel. He doesn’t like to feel hurt. It’s been 34 episodes now and we all know Damon pretty well. Whenever Damon gets upset, he goes out and do something really stupid like snapping Jeremy’s neck. This time though, he pulled the old Katherine trick to find his prey. I don’t know about you, but I like the caring, sensitive, cry-me-a-river Damon better than the bloodsucking, people killing Damon.

Jeremy and Bonnie – MIA:
Where was Jeremy in this episode? Was he brooding in his room again because Bonnie ditched him to go see Luka?

So, Uncle John is back. Stefan called Isobel and he came back with John. What does that mean? Was John with Isobel? Does he know about the Originals? Also what does Jules mean when she told Tyler that a lot of their kind are on their way to Mystic Falls? Are they all coming to town to kill the vampires? This is just going to draw a lot of attention and Klaus is going to find out about all of this soon. In true TVD fashion, the episode ends with a lot of unanswered questions. Until next time.
