In episode 2.11– By the Light of the Moon, it finally happened, something all the vampires have been avoiding… and for a brief moment, we all thought our favorite vampires were safe from werewolves, until our hopes shattered with another intense plot twist…
Things were about to get hot and heavy until Rose and Damon discovered that things are never that simple in Mystic Falls. However, how exactly will this werewolf bite affect Rose and how far will Damon go to try and save her?
The only reference that comes to mind about a vampire getting bit by a werewolf is in the “Underworld” movies… could Rose turn into a super-vampire with werewolf powers like Michael? A crazy mutant breed of both? Awesome as that idea may be, certain TVD factors come to play. In the “Underworld” movies, Michael is a special individual who carries the gene necessary to tolerate both the “lycan” and vampire DNA…. Also in “the Vampire Diaries,” werewolves are born carrying the werewolf gene and the curse is activated whereas in the “Underworld” movies, one has to be bitten to become one. But who knows, for all we know there could be more than one way to become a werewolf…
The place where Rose was bitten on her shoulder almost seemed to be infected with a flesh eating bacteria, but she doesn’t die instantly and as we see in the previews for the next episode, Damon goes on a mission to try and save her… is there a way? It seems that Damon is sure as heck going to try, but at what price?
If (and that’s a big if) there is a cure, and if Jules knows it, she will most likely be hard-pressed to let that secret slip and give the vampires a big one-up. Damon could always give Jules the option to administer the cure herself so that nobody in the vampire community knows it, just saving Rose this one time… but why the heck would she want to do that when she’s the one that bit her in the first place?? True, she was aiming for Damon but regardless of who she was aiming for, it hurt Damon, which is something that Jules may see as a small victory. However Damon has something she wants: the answer to the question she has been asking around town… where Mason is. Damon could always offer her the answer in order for her help (still assuming she knows it). Knowing where the truth will lead, he’ll probably barter to get Rose safe first and then give Jules the answer because she’s not going to be happy if Damon tells her the truth. She could easily go back on her word, bite her again at the next full moon, or even try and attack others to avenge Mason.
It all comes down to Rose’s survival though and sad as it may be, her character may have seen it’s last… but her being near-death may make Damon’s feelings for her stronger and if she is gone, how will this affect Damon? *sigh* January 27th never seemed so far away…
