Previously on the Vampire Diaries, Jeremy tried to be the hero and almost died, Elena went on a suicide mission, Bonnie tried to channel powers with Luka, Elijah surprised all of us by sparing Damon’s life, and Stefan got stuck inside the tomb with Katherine.
This week episode, By the Light of the Moon, is a mid-season finale. This is the episode that we all have been waiting for since September. Tyler Lockwood’s transformation into a werewolf.
Bonnie’s Powers:
What surprises me is that how Bonnie can do “closing” spells without blinking and yet, she’s too weak to do “opening” spells. She couldn’t do one without having a nose bleed. In episode 207, Bonnie did a “closing” spell on a room inside the Lockwood Mansion to stage the “Kill Kat” operation. Later in that episode, she did another “closing” spell on the tomb under the Fell Church to trap Katherine. In this week episode, Bonnie did a “closing” spell on the Gilbert house for Elena so she couldn’t leave. I guess it is harder to remove or lift the spell than to cast one. Which leads me to wonder how Bonnie is going to lift the spell she casted on the Gilbert house. Is Elena going to be trapped inside her house for the rest of this season? That would make an interesting storyline. Elena would be safe inside the house where no evil vampires can get to her. How boring! Bonnie, you better study up on your spells. Wait, I got one for you… “Alohomora!”
She Wolf (and I don’t mean Shakira):
Apparently, Mason had a wolf friend. Jules. She looked like bad news to me. I had a bad feeling as soon as she came on screen. What was she doing at Mason’s place in Florida, anyway? Were they roommates? How did Katherine feel about her “boyfriend’s” wolf friend? If Jules and Mason were roommates, Katherine had to have known about her. And what does she want with Tyler? Does Jules just genuinely want to help Tyler go through his first transformation? Since Jules and Mason were friends, she probably just wants to be there for her friend’s nephew. She has first hand experience and she can help Tyler. I doubt it, though. Just from looking at her body language, her intentions are not sincere. And, who was that person she called after she left the Lockwood Mansion? Who is Jules working for? What other danger is coming to Mystic Falls? It’s not like this town doesn’t have enough problems already.
The Dream Team:
Damon and Alaric are teaming up again. I love seeing these two working together and getting along. It’s funny because Alaric came to town to kill Damon, and now he’s helping Damon. Alaric and Damon tried to find out whether or not Jules was a werewolf. Damon’s smart now; he’s carrying wolfsbane in his pocket. It’s a good thing, too because that wolfsbane was going to help them figure out if Jules was a werewolf or not. They spiked Jules’ drink with wolfsbane and tried to get her to drink it, but she was too smart. Jules said she sniffed out Damon and the wolfsbane as soon as she walked into the Grill. The Dream Team kind of got shot down tonight. Damon and Alaric, you guys got to be better than that. Now, Jules is vengeful and threatened Damon. “You’ve been marked.” I’d be worried, if I were Damon. His brother is trapped inside the tomb. Elena is trapped inside her house. Who’s going to save him?
Luka’s Helping Hand:
Bonnie asked Luka to help her break the bind from the moonstone. Luka seems like a nice person and he really does want to help Bonnie. Together, they “destroyed” the moonstone, or so Bonnie thought. Luka pretended to destroy the moonstone in front of Bonnie. He then gave it to his dad, who is going to turn around and give it to Elijah. Luka didn’t seem like he was happy about what he did. He did it because his dad told him to, not because he wanted to.
A Deal with the Devil:
Elijah pretended to be a historian, who came to town to do research on Mystic Falls. He got Jenna to invite him into the Gilbert house. Really, what’s the point of trapping Elena inside the house when it is that easy for a vampire to get inside the house. Elena Gilbert, the danger magnet. Even when she’s trapped inside her house, danger come knocking on her door. In this case, danger got passed the door and inside her house.
It turns out that Elijah really didn’t want to hurt Elena. He doesn’t want the curse of the sun and the moon to be broken. He doesn’t want anyone to break it. He wants to make a deal with Elena. He wants Elena to stay safe, so no other vampires can lead her to Klaus. When the time is right, Elijah is going to use Elena to draw out Klaus. And when Klaus shows up, Elijah is planning on killing Klaus. Elena and her friends will not be harmed. Elijah promised Elena that from the help of Luka, Jonas, and Bonnie; he’s going to help protect everyone that Elena cares about. Elena made a deal, but not before asking him for something else she wanted.
Tyler’s Transformation:
Let me just say how glad I am for Tyler that Caroline was there. It was excruciating to watch Tyler go through the transformation. The acting was spectacular in this scene. I felt Tyler’s pain. I felt Caroline’s sympathy. Most of all, I felt sympathy for Tyler. When they say, it’s a curse; it really is a curse. It’s not something that you want to happen to you. I am so proud of Caroline for being incredibly brave and kind. After this experience, Tyler and Caroline are bonded for life. I’m sure of it.
A Werewolf Bite:
It’s going to make me sound horrible, but I’m so glad it was Rose and not Damon who got bitten by Jules. Man, Jules wasn’t kidding when she threatened Damon. I thought this was the end for Rose, but the wound was healed. Until later, Rose’s skin turned into a gruesome rash. Is this a slow process? Maybe Rose is going to die after all.
Soulmates Reunite:
Stefan’s back! I know I’ve said this before about Elena and Stefan and how they keep breaking up and getting back together. But, I’m really glad they got back together. Team Stefan and Elena! Anyone else with me? I guess I’m alone in this, but how can you not root for these two? When Stefan was stuck inside the tomb with Katherine, all he cared about was Elena’s safety. He didn’t care about his survival. And all Elena wanted was to get Stefan out of the tomb.
Katherine’s still stuck inside the tomb. Things are not going to get any easier for Tyler. There is a new wolf in town and she’s vengeful. The curse of the sun and the moon is still bind to the moonstone. There is a dark cloud named, Klaus is looming over Mystic Falls. Isobel’s return is in the near future. Rose’s survival is not looking too good.
It is going to be a long 6 week break, but I’m sure the show will return in January with an epic episode. Happy Holidays, everyone!
